CSMX - Post #09

I've been commenting on the ongoing discussion on structures. The structure update development blog was released on Tuesday.  There is good. There is bad. There is change.

If you go back to January of 2013 Two Step posted on the forums about his disagreement with CCP's perception of Player Owned Starbases and their need for attention. Two Step was a member of CSM7 at the time. It's been a long path to move from the threadnought created to looking at Team Game of Drones lay out a massive concept that will change how we do many things in the game. Two years and five months but we're here now. It hasn't been a smooth road and it still is not.

I've sat down with a lot of people over the past year+ and asked what they wanted from structures. We've gotten CCP Nullarbor into  small soundboards. We've done surveys, filled out data sheets both internally and in public. We've written essays about this stuff and now we're starting to close in one the first changes. That is good but its not perfect yet. With the dev blog release there are some concerns. There is going to be a lot of change. On one side we are looking at the idea of a 'window' when you are docked to the POS.

I've sat down with people and discussed the loss of dscan for available pilots in space and how this will affect wormholers as they move through their chain. The conversation with CCP Nullarbor has been very good. He opened a #structure channel in the tweetfleet slack and he has been reading and responding to conversation there as well as the development blog. Things are still not in their final form and I beg of you to continue to share your doubts, concerns, and wants. I like where it has the potentual to go.

For things that are in their final stages, there is Entosis Link Testing on Sisi. We were asked to share this far and wide so that they can get as many people working with the mechanic as possible. See CCP Lebowski's dev post to join the Test Wars they have set up. For those interested in testing, more burner missions have arrived on Sisi.

For those participating CCP has expanded the PLEX for Good drive and added a silent auction. The auction finishes May 22nd, 2015 at 23:59:59.

Last Year I asked CCP Manifest for the video from Eve's Museum of Modern Art exhibit. He said he would get it for me. The end of that path has finally come to flower and on Tuesday CCP released the video they had created. I am guessing that it had to wait for the exhibit to finish its display or something technical and legal. It is well worth the watch. I wrote about it earlier this week. I find it to be a very beautiful look into the game. I also feel 100% responsible for making this happen! When people ask, "Sugar what did you do on the CSM?" I shall proudly say brought the MOMA exhbit to youtube. You can also view it in 4k.

I was able to make Monday's meeting. I won't make next Monday's meeting because of work. Such is that entire employment thing.

Comments

  1. The MOMA video is indeed very impressive. The entire map flashing like synapses in a brain, like its some living beast, is very cool. Thanks for keeping on it to get it released.

  2. Structures... I never fancied to own one. I'd glady trade the whole new structures system for the (promised and never delivered) ability to customize my Captain's Quarters.

That should be my home in New Eden, not some stupid thing anyone can come and burn it for the lulz.

But admitteldy I have no idea on what do people think about the matter of housing in EVE. Probably structures are not even intended to be that.

    1. "But admitteldy I have no idea..." this should have been your whole comment.

I get the comment on the CQ... I want WiS and I feel if CCP ever gets off their ass and give it to us the way it could be, it will be paradigm changing gameplay in EVE... but why comment on an area of the game you admittedly have no idea about?

For myself I see NPC stations as Motel 6's... Howard Johnson's... a place to crash when in the big city on business... My home is not some stupid thing... my HOME I own and I pay for and I protect... and my family lives there.

Our POS (Citadel, whatever you call it) is our home out in the black... and it is IMPORTANT to me and all of us who DO have an idea...

And if you can read you have to be intentionally avoiding understanding that while CCP did not think we would ever permanently live in POSes.. CCP is all about Player Created gameplay and Emergent Behavior...

If you don't believe me, just read this Dev Blog, "Into the Unknowns"... 'nough said.

While we are on the topic... Sugar so far my feelings over all are Hellz Yes!!! and my only drawbacks are the loss of the forcefield (you knew that) and the potential to Dscan or probe to find our WHO is inside a Citadel... isn't changing the structures and adding 'tosing as a thing gonna be enough with out major (in Anoikis) gameplay changes too?

The rest is... if not amazing (drones for POS defense!!) at least very interesting to say the least... So far, Kudos to CCP and the CSM.

Sugar’s Non-Technical Guide to Making Boosters

Welcome to my non-technical and outdated but probably still useful guide to boosters.  There have been changes to how things are built in Eve. This was the old POS code before the introduction of new structures in 2016.   This is just a walk through on my wobbling path of booster production.  It took me half a dozen different documents to figure out what I needed to do to make these mythical things.  It is what I do.  It may not be perfect but it works.

This is pirate focused industry.
This guide brought to you by Lain asking me to write it after I tried to explain it in chat.

Why make boosters? Because drugs are good.  Really they are performance enhancers and performance enhancers can give someone that extra edge in PvP.  It was also because my boys used them and when they ran low they often ran out, I could be their supplier.  They would no longer hoard their drugs due to the length of time it takes to get fresh product.. The thought of being a drug kingpin was also very appealing. …

Have you done your Eve Vegas Survey?

I did attend Eve Vegas to the shock of many. I'd already paid for it and allotted the time. It seemed that I should go.

I went to the Grand Canyon and Hoover as well. This is not the space to discuss those amazing places or my new Camera.

Eve Vegas was a bit harder for me to go to then I expected. I've detached from Eve for the most part these past months. It is very easy to be angry, frustrated, and bitter about the past that I lived on. The game, its development, and the players move on while I find myself emotionally stuck. That emotional stickiness does not need to be given to everyone else. Part of experiencing it was shielding people from it. But, as I accepted my items and stared down the poor gentleman that tried to put a wristband around my wrist, I realized that I wasn't in as good of a place as I had hoped to be.

That is where the Survey comes in. There are a few things that I could say and did say. A few of the questions made me want to say a bit more.

One was …

Your ideal roadmap

To try to be a bit more interesting then blogging yet another daily list of summit meetings, how about a question?

In the producer session, as we try to figure out how to fix and improve our communication with teams and how we figure out who should be gone to for features and changes, we discussed the road map.

We discussed what 'our' ideal roadmap would be. This breaks down into the individual roadmaps for each member of the CSM. After all, we are individiuals and we have different dreams for Eve. We have different goals and features that we want to move forward or go back to.

How close are we to what CCP is looking at and planning? We discussed their safety mesures to weigh the value of features. What will this feature do for Eve? It is not enough to have an ideal road map of things you want. Those things have to have value and that value needs to be enough to dedicate the time to the feature.

Do you have an ideal roadmap? A path for Eve to head in the next year or two once …
