Condensing

To continue on my line of frustrated and whiny posts, on  Saturday night I came home like the partially dead thing I often am on my long work weekends. I had to change out capital builds and I was so very, very tired and whiny about it. I was just worn out and tired and frustrated with how much went into putting a capital into build. The warping, the constant mineral counts, the endless copying that my alt does. And upon realizing what an incredibly whining fit I was having I tried to turn the direction of my post around to something productive. But I failed at that time and just didn't post what I had written.

I often try to dig down into what has me frustrated. Yesterday, its being to far outside of my comfort zone to a point where I am no longer able to be productive and start to break down. With my capital building it is all of the windows in and out of the client that I am relying on to build things.

Once, a long time ago as a new player still fascinated with Eve's windows I took a picture of what it takes to fit a ship if you have all of your various windows open. At the time I was fascinated with it. I was amused at how the windows took up the game screen but it didn't bother me so much. This time, I found that I was growing frustrated by constantly opening and closing windows that took an extended period of time to open and close to gather all of the info that I needed.

I don't have a memory for numbers. Do I need 15 Capital Armor Plates or 16? Ugh, I have to go look again. Did I take enough minerals to the POS? How many modules have I built and put into a container vs how many do I have in build and how many left to build? I find myself opining and closing windows over and over. This is coupled by loading and unloading my freighter constantly.

I wasn't quite at the point where I stomp my feed and demand to just be able to magically play the game without effort. What I did realize was that I was tired of having to go from screen to screen to screen to scroll, select, copy, search, paste, etc. There had become two aspects of work. One was the events inside of the game that I have to do or create to make what I want happen. The second is how I gathered all of the information to make those events happen. The second part was where my frustration lay.

I've come up with two ways to solve my current issue so far. One is to create infographs that just take up one page. I can take the blueprint of the end result and have it there. I can calculate the total minerals needed to create each of the capital components and have that there. The second is to use the in game notepad more.

The ingame notepad is one of those weirdly useful tools that doesn't seem as if it should be. It saves links and I'm thinking I can make a quicker, faster method of searching the market and buying items with it. What would be perfect if I could preset a link to buy a particular amount of items.

In general what I need is less tasks to break out the information that I need. When I'm in game I get tired of tabbing over to my spreadsheet and scrolling for the information needed. Then back over, some cut and pastes, back and forth. I think if I can remove this layer of frustration for myself I'll have more energy to be frustrated by the freighter movement. That needs to come in an update on Crius.

  1. I think you are coping with the situation. Your alt on the other hand is COPYING blueprints.

Feel free to delete this after fixing the typo.

    1. Meh. I'm okay with it. I'm far from perfect in my ability to write and edit.

    2. Over time, Sugar’s occasional typos have grown on me. They have a wonderful not quite right word quirkiness to them that as often as not imbues the blog with unexpected richness. Looking at the currently mentioned example, ‘coping/copying’ (and I presume she’s fixed the typo since it reads ‘copying’ now) is yet another one of those delightful little gems since the Alt is coping with the situation by endless copying.

I suppose we could be sticklers and demand Sugar send her submissions out for editor review before publishing but it’s just a blog and we’d lose more than we gain. Fewer posts would appear and, more importantly, what did appear would often lose its gorgeous stream of consciousness informality.

I suspect that quite often Sugar’s merely popping stuff down in writing to get clear on some vague thoughts and we, fortunate kids that we are, get to follow those coalescing thoughts along with her. For quick first drafts, her posts read amazingly well; organically understandable and stunningly thorough. Generates no small touch of envy in me as I very probably spent more time writing this comment than she spent writing her original post.

  2. You know, something that might be useful would be tabbed windows. Like browser tabs. Have one window open with a tab for the fitting window, one for people & plsces, one for industry, etc.

That way, you could have move back and forth between windows without them taking all the screen space or having to close them to make room for others

  3. Something that may be of use is EVE HQ. In it you can add items to a requisitions list which is essentially a shopping list, you can then set it up to view in the IGB of eve and everything is linked so you can open the market window and buy what you need.

Sugar’s Non-Technical Guide to Making Boosters

Welcome to my non-technical and outdated but probably still useful guide to boosters.  There have been changes to how things are built in Eve. This was the old POS code before the introduction of new structures in 2016.   This is just a walk through on my wobbling path of booster production.  It took me half a dozen different documents to figure out what I needed to do to make these mythical things.  It is what I do.  It may not be perfect but it works.

This is pirate focused industry.
This guide brought to you by Lain asking me to write it after I tried to explain it in chat.

Why make boosters? Because drugs are good.  Really they are performance enhancers and performance enhancers can give someone that extra edge in PvP.  It was also because my boys used them and when they ran low they often ran out, I could be their supplier.  They would no longer hoard their drugs due to the length of time it takes to get fresh product.. The thought of being a drug kingpin was also very appealing. …

Have you done your Eve Vegas Survey?

I did attend Eve Vegas to the shock of many. I'd already paid for it and allotted the time. It seemed that I should go.

I went to the Grand Canyon and Hoover as well. This is not the space to discuss those amazing places or my new Camera.

Eve Vegas was a bit harder for me to go to then I expected. I've detached from Eve for the most part these past months. It is very easy to be angry, frustrated, and bitter about the past that I lived on. The game, its development, and the players move on while I find myself emotionally stuck. That emotional stickiness does not need to be given to everyone else. Part of experiencing it was shielding people from it. But, as I accepted my items and stared down the poor gentleman that tried to put a wristband around my wrist, I realized that I wasn't in as good of a place as I had hoped to be.

That is where the Survey comes in. There are a few things that I could say and did say. A few of the questions made me want to say a bit more.

One was …

Your ideal roadmap

To try to be a bit more interesting then blogging yet another daily list of summit meetings, how about a question?

In the producer session, as we try to figure out how to fix and improve our communication with teams and how we figure out who should be gone to for features and changes, we discussed the road map.

We discussed what 'our' ideal roadmap would be. This breaks down into the individual roadmaps for each member of the CSM. After all, we are individiuals and we have different dreams for Eve. We have different goals and features that we want to move forward or go back to.

How close are we to what CCP is looking at and planning? We discussed their safety mesures to weigh the value of features. What will this feature do for Eve? It is not enough to have an ideal road map of things you want. Those things have to have value and that value needs to be enough to dedicate the time to the feature.

Do you have an ideal roadmap? A path for Eve to head in the next year or two once …
