Winter Project

Back in August, right after we first got Jabber, DP posted a link to a personality test. Personality tests are always amusing. This particular one was, "What Kind of D&D Character Would You Be?" And of course, it was not a short test and takes about forty minutes.

Lots of us ran off and took it. It was a pretty interesting mix of results but almost everyone was some form of Wizard/magic users that charted towards some form of good. Me? I was a true neutral ranger. I doubt that is how many would imagine us. The low sec, PvP corporation. I leave pirate off of our label. Many of us consider ourselves, at the core, pirates but our corporation is PvP small to medium gang oriented.

The concept of "who" and "what" one is comes up a lot in Eve. The other day I babbled a lot about ISK and mentioned Rhavas'. Rhavas decided to make categories for the members of low sec and Kaeda and I demanded that he make one that we truly fit into. Very few people fit into one category. You can chase them into a box but that does not mean they fit. It also does not mean that they continue to fit where they once did.

One of the things that Rhavas's post told me is that Eve is growing up. The inevitable fact of a game going on for ten years is that the player base will grow up. Just as supercapital saturation has reached the point where they are starting to kill each other. So will low sec change, high sec twist, and null sec do whatever it does.

7-2 is an interesting mix of anti-pirates and pirates turned into a low sec PvP corporation. What the players were and what they are now, are different. Ranks, roles, interests, and abilities have all changed and grown over the years. The worst choice a player can make is to allow themselves to stagnate just because it is familiar and comfortable. And the cure to stagnation does not have to be something dramatic. It just needs to be change.

That includes me.

I came up with a little idea while I was at work. A personal operation that will push my knowledge and improve some of my skills. Now, I may never get it off the ground and I still need to make some plans and do some training. I figure I will be ready once the first excited expansion wave is done. What I am thinking about engaging in is operation Siphon.

I'd like to take two alts, one in an Orca into null sec and start stealing moogoo and reactions. Once my Orca is full I will scout it back out through wormholes. The Orca will carry a blockade runner, some siphons, and some scanning ships. The entire goal is just to creep in, steal, dump my siphons and move when I need to. I don't know if it will work, be successful, be boring, or what. I may never get it off the ground due to other, more pressing obligations. But, if it does happen it may provide some interesting stories and maybe a bit of ISK along the way.

  1. Personal projects are needed in eve, else the game will become boring very quickly. And, as I say my newbros, waiting for the next ship to fly is not a project. Go for it! Greetings from solitude.

  2. Apparantly I am a true neutral human ranger.
When I consider my own alignment I always have doubts whether I am chaotic good or lawful evil so true neutral probably isn't that bad a choice.
Little bit surprised by the ranger part instead of a wizardly type.

  3. Because of that link I spend half an hour at work doing this.. I am a Neutral Evil Human Wizard.
    Doesn't really surprise me :p

  4. Damn link. I was going to go for a walk at lunch, but instead discovered that I am a:

    Lawful Neutral Human Wizard

    Lawful Neutral, eh?

I got to think about that.

  5. Chaotic Neutral Human Ranger here. Sounds about right.

  6. 2 things: almost no one is true neutral or true chaotic, not even when they're trying to stay in character in D/D.

Also, the siphons are only 50m3, so you don't need an orca

    1. I've never played D&D nor did I try to stay in character. It was an interesting result but I am not surprised by it.

The siphons are only 50m3. Collecting moon goo, having reships, maybe I might gas mine for my boosters, who knows. An Orca is a mobile platform and a refitting station if I don't want to drop a depot.

    2. Also, even if you do have a depot to store stuff in, you'll need some way to haul it out.

  7. I have a similar plan wrt stealing moon goo from nullsec. It involves Orcas and a C1-3 with static Null hole. Let me know if you want to team up.

Conflicted

Halycon said it quite well in a comment he left about the skill point trading proposal for skill point changes. He is conflicted in many different ways.

So am I.

Somedays, I don't want to be open minded. I do not want to see other points of view. I want to not like things and not feel good about them and it be okay. That is something that is denied me for now. I've stated my opinion about the first round of proposals to trade skills.

I don't like them.

That isn't good enough. I have to answer why. Others do not like it as well. I cannot escape over to their side and be unhappy with them. I am dragged away and challenged about my distaste.  Some of the people I like most think the change is good. Other's think it has little meaning. They want to know why I don't like it.

When this was proposed at the CSM summit, I swiveled my chair and asked if they realized that they were undoing the basic structure that characters and game progression worked under. They said that t…

CSMX - Post #20

Summer is here and CCP is very much out of the office. Sion made a good point in wondering why everyone leaves Iceland when it has its best weather. What it means is that all is mostly quiet on the dev blog front. There are some things happening but the dev blogs and news announcements have not yet happened. The skill points were delivered on Tuesday so yay for unallocated skill points.

Over in CSM chat, there has been a lot of back and forth about sov and measuring the impact and success of things so far. I can say that CCP and the CSM are watching it. The pros and cons are coming in pretty hot and heavy. Some are being looked at now. Some have to see how things are going and if and how the direction needs to be tweaked.

In my corner, I'm starting to gather things together. The summit is in seven or so weeks. In between then and now I need to gather up my question list and write down a few topics of discussion. I'm starting now because I have personal vacation at the end of A…

Nothing and Everything Changes

I can mark the passage of time from Eve with Intuition's age. He turned four last month. Today, Corbexx sent me a chat on Steam and we spent hours chattering about this and that as if it was yesterday. That is friendship.

One of the things we noticed is that our NDA is about to expire. That and the leavings of several people left us gossiping up a storm. The NDA was never a good NDA but we chose to respect the spirit of it even if the letter of it had the strength of  wet tissue paper.

Life is fine. The husband got a promotion at the start of the year. I am up for one at the end of the month that will be a fascinating life change. We also got our rental property goals started. For any that wonder how much of a basement dweller I actually am. My husband has the entire basement of the new house.

I think of Eve quite often. For one, I have it in my reddit feed. I mostly skim the titles and skip the topics. The general mood has not changed even if the people saying it has.

I saw that …
