Making Content

I have a project.  I'm almost shivering in excitement because my first efforts worked.  There was a lot of fail and a lot of derp but the ultimate end was more successful then I expected.

Industry by Piracy has not faded by the wayside.  In fact, it has only just started.  This project has potential  A lot of potential.  I may be super excited to have an early success.  Details will be eventually.  I doubt it is as exciting for anyone else as it is for me.  However, I am buzzing from the flush of success.

You have to make your own content in Eve. I think I am starting to come into my own for that category.  I'm not stealing corporations or ganking miners.  There are no twisting of the games rules or EULA violations.  In fact, it might be considered very boring. However, my little op success has me buzzed.  The accomplishment is delicious.  Almost as delicious as skittles.  But grape skittles.  Damn.  Grape skittles are delicious.

This game is fun.  It is damn fun.  It isn't fun in the normal ways of many games but if you put the time into it and the thought and energy it starts to give back.  You reach in and you make fun.  Today it did that for me.  I built a mother fucking sand castle. Months of planning came online and what I wanted to happen happened.  I'm proud of myself. I'm proud of my partner in this crime.  They are gaining content too.  The entire day was spent laughing over our numerous failures and mistakes as we figured out what we were doing.  We learned a lot.  We will be better next time.

For the first time I feel as if I sank into the game and learned mechanisms   Not just things that I have been taught but the sum total of my knowledge slammed into experience and I learned from it.  It felt good and once again, I had fun.  I have a grin on my face.  I might get wrinkles from it.  It is a concern.

One has to make their own content.  To learn to look outside of the now and at what can be. It might take some planning and some changes.  It may mean time and it may mean planning and effort.  But the pay off.  The sweet, sweet pay off.  If nothing else worked out this one accomplishment will satiate me for a while.  but I suspect there is more out there on this path and I'm going to glut myself on it.

Then I will share all the details.

  1. Most of you Eve bloggers have A LOT of time on your hands don't you? And no real hobbies to speak of?

Writing is a very worthy hobby. Sugar's blog puts us in her mind and allows us to better know her, as well as explore EVE from within her mind's eye. This blog may not entertain you, but it certainly entertains me.

I found EVE again through Lowsec Lifestyle, and I hang on every word Sugar writes, because the words and thoughts of an experienced player gives me both an edge and inspiration to stay in the game.

And nobody should have a single problem with a person expressing their thoughts.

  3. I would hazard a guess that writing about a game you enjoy (and gaming is a hobby who'da thunk it) is probably more meaningful and a better use of time than random trolling but hey maybe I don't have enough time on my hands.....

Conflicted

Halycon said it quite well in a comment he left about the skill point trading proposal for skill point changes. He is conflicted in many different ways.

So am I.

Somedays, I don't want to be open minded. I do not want to see other points of view. I want to not like things and not feel good about them and it be okay. That is something that is denied me for now. I've stated my opinion about the first round of proposals to trade skills.

I don't like them.

That isn't good enough. I have to answer why. Others do not like it as well. I cannot escape over to their side and be unhappy with them. I am dragged away and challenged about my distaste.  Some of the people I like most think the change is good. Other's think it has little meaning. They want to know why I don't like it.

When this was proposed at the CSM summit, I swiveled my chair and asked if they realized that they were undoing the basic structure that characters and game progression worked under. They said that t…

CSMX - Post #20

Summer is here and CCP is very much out of the office. Sion made a good point in wondering why everyone leaves Iceland when it has its best weather. What it means is that all is mostly quiet on the dev blog front. There are some things happening but the dev blogs and news announcements have not yet happened. The skill points were delivered on Tuesday so yay for unallocated skill points.

Over in CSM chat, there has been a lot of back and forth about sov and measuring the impact and success of things so far. I can say that CCP and the CSM are watching it. The pros and cons are coming in pretty hot and heavy. Some are being looked at now. Some have to see how things are going and if and how the direction needs to be tweaked.

In my corner, I'm starting to gather things together. The summit is in seven or so weeks. In between then and now I need to gather up my question list and write down a few topics of discussion. I'm starting now because I have personal vacation at the end of A…

Nothing and Everything Changes

I can mark the passage of time from Eve with Intuition's age. He turned four last month. Today, Corbexx sent me a chat on Steam and we spent hours chattering about this and that as if it was yesterday. That is friendship.

One of the things we noticed is that our NDA is about to expire. That and the leavings of several people left us gossiping up a storm. The NDA was never a good NDA but we chose to respect the spirit of it even if the letter of it had the strength of  wet tissue paper.

Life is fine. The husband got a promotion at the start of the year. I am up for one at the end of the month that will be a fascinating life change. We also got our rental property goals started. For any that wonder how much of a basement dweller I actually am. My husband has the entire basement of the new house.

I think of Eve quite often. For one, I have it in my reddit feed. I mostly skim the titles and skip the topics. The general mood has not changed even if the people saying it has.

I saw that …
