Industry via Piracy

I purchased three Cynabal BPCs (blueprint copies) from Ender. Ender of the 30 some Cynabal BPC from exploration. When I inquired about buying them he asked me if they were for personal use or resale. This is a very common theme for us. We will happily sell something to another corpmate for a decreased or very low price if they are going to use it for themselves. Such as the Vigilant I won off of Blink and sold Diz.

I did not go to Ender because I expected a discount. I went to Ender because if I was going to pay for the BPC to build the Cynabals I would be flying I wanted to put the ISK into a corpmates wallet instead of a random strangers. Now that I have the BPC in hand I need to get them to my industry character so that she can build them. Once built, I will ship them back down to low sec. With multiple accounts I can handle my own logistic needs but it still requires planning and time.

I am also a bit ahead of where I thought I would be when it comes to preparing to build my Orca and Charon. Thanks to my back chat room dealings, I have a higher percentage of harder to obtain minerals then I expected to have. I can start building my Orca now. Except I lack Capital Ship building skills just yet. This isn't a bad thing. I also cannot fly the Orca. By the time I cover those two areas I expect to be able to build the Charon.

Now building things starts to gain another layer. A layer I added when I went hunting for stolen goods to fuel my industrial machine. I will build ships for my own use. I will also build ships for sale. People will buy these ships from the market and reabsorb items into the game. It is very fun visual that somewhere, someone will be polishing their new and much loved Tempest built from the tears and shattered dreams of their fellows.

While that is very dramatic and full of dreams and visualization the truth is I simply want to build some spaceships to sell and use because I want to. Going through the process from start and finish is pleasant for me. These type of side projects stave off boredom and give me greater flexibility to play as I do other tasks.

I also like it conceptually. Instead of wallowing in the frustration of the game mechanics inconvenient aspects I wallow in the reality of them. Transportation of goods from where they are gathered to where they are created and where they are sold is a basic part of the economic cycle. The predation of the cycle is also a part of the whole. Caravan Guards, Ship escorts, armored trucks moving money... all of these things are created as part of the economic cycle of gathering and construction and selling to protect from the predators.

While my story of chasing a hauler in a Retriever and my general not minding mining personality had someone call me a typical carebear, I feel that was said in eye rolling affection. If I was more role play oriented I'd restrict my industrial assets to those gained through the loss of others only. I'm not that type of person however. It does not diminish the enjoyment I receive from gaining my assets from the loss of others.

I'm still flipping through all of the lovely blue prints that someone else went through the trouble of researching and selling for another person to buy that now sit in a container in my industrial hangers waiting to be built. They will not be wasted. I did not acquire them merely to chortle in glee. But the chortling is fun as well.

    Damn, I just bought one. Having a "made by Sugar" ship would have been nice.

I installed Eve on my Surface the other day. I then remembered why my last laptop, when I was playing Eve, was an Alienware gaming laptop. My Surface, wonderful creature that it is, runs Eve at such a tiny magnification that I squint to see it. I could change my settings and adjust for this. Instead, I'll stick to my desktop and try to remember to log in and see the latest round of changes.

Yet, here I am writing.

Deep in the muzzy field of my brain that has been working almost daily for the last six weeks, random thoughts bubble up. I may not log in and spend my time focusing on Eve as a world, but it hasn't slipped from me. I've picked up an amazing group of friends that I talk to daily and many of them still play enough that I skim the social edges. At times I'm angry that the same social problems exist. At others, I'm fascinating by the process.

This is where it really started. The day I lost my mind.

I never told anyone how long I had been debating my run for the ninth CSM. The thought started to circle in the back of my thoughts in November. I was back home after a sucessful Eve Vegas. I had met a few people. My notes from the presentations and round tables had gone over very well. I felt useful, comfortable, and excited that I was a member of the community.
