Campfires

Ah, gatecamps. How I dislike them. I think they are one of the hardest things for me to keep a polite, open minded perspective on. I guess we all have things that drive us up a wall. I used to be much more neutral to gatecamps but at some point I started to dislike them.

One of the things about this part of faction warfare space is the regular gatecamps. Gatecamps and smartbombs. I try to think of them as pieces of hte landscape but I was up pretty early and moving a Viator around. I've finally learned to warp to pounces in low sec. That took long enough. I like my Viator however, so I bounced and checked the gate. The flashy red skulls in local had given me a clue but the two augoror and three exequror with a Keris and three damage ships told me it was a gatecamp.

I stared at it. It gave me a good time to look at the corpse icons. They are ridiculous enough that I didn't find them amusing. The little floating man in space looks terrible. Nor do I like seeing them just hanging around in space like inedible gingerbread men.

I think it is somewhere between being rusty and tired of losing things to gatecamps that I decided to sit and watch the camp for a bit. There are different types, I've learned. There are ones that catch everything in and out. Those normally have smart bombs. There are ones that catch things coming in. There are some that are a mix of both. After a few ships jumped through into high sec I decided that I was probably okay to rush the gate and jump.

But, old memories held me back. There was a time for a bit that a cloaky ship slid into the gate and had to putter the last few meters. This has long been fixed but its left a deep set paranoia that I won't come out at the gate. Now, that has not been a problem but the little scared voice inside of me doesn't accept that reality.

I decided to be smart. I waited for something to jump in that caused a tiny bit of a fight. They'd be so busy shooting at it and shaking gateguns that they'd not notice a little Viator sneak through.

In reality, I was more cautious than I needed to be. Still, I like my Viator. It is the stolen one from one of Vov's wormhole theft's. Weirdly fit and all I fly it everywhere.

But I am rusty! So rusty.

No, no, no! You can't do that. What's the fit? For the love of all things space holy, what's the fit?

    1. Please no. Don't post a fit, or yet another thoughtful post will be misinterpreted and become yet another boring ship-fitting argument, the likes of which I can find in a handful of the blogs you have linked.

      Save us from the following:

"Ugh, how can you fly that? Don't you know anything?" or,
"Nothing wrong with that. Why can't you recognize a good Viator fit?"

So, please gawd, no posting of ship fittings.

Well that complicates things. I'd presumed the fit came with the theft meaning it's remains such for sentimental reasons but hadn't considered the stale, "Why can't you recognize a good Viator fit?" response.

  2. Corpses are used as a de-cloak tool, since it is not a common additional to the normal player overview.

  3. That is a good strategy. I've done many, many gatecamps in low sec, and it's basically a feeding frenzy once you think you have something. A person at a pounce can easily get though once the frenzy starts.

  4. When you pass through a gate camp, always watch what kinds of ships are on the gate. You have to assume T3Ds are tacklers, and battleships are smartbombers. If you don't see any logi, consider coming through in a heavily tanked ship, and point everything you can. Gate guns hurt. :)

But this happened to me just a few months ago. I lost a Viator :) Sometimes you warp just short of the gate and have to travel the last few hundred metres. I think of it as the gate's docking ring.

Maybe one day!

It was a random question that I knew the answer of. I have 'Sugar' as a keyword so it highlights green and catches my attention. This made me chuckle. Maybe I'll have to go and see what it is like to shoot a ship one day? I could not help but smile. Basi suggested that I put my Titan killmail in my bio and assert my badassery. I figure, naw. It was a roll of the dice that landed me that kill mail. It doesn't define me as a person. Bios are interesting. The idea of a biography is a way to personalize your account. You can learn a lot about a person by what they choose to put in their bio

Taboo Questions

Let us talk contentious things. What about high sec? When will CCP pay attention to high sec and those that cannot spend their time in dangerous space?  This is somewhat how the day started, sparked by a question from an anonymous poster. Speaking about high sec, in general, is one of the hardest things to do. The amount of emotion wrapped around the topic is staggering. There are people who want to stay in high sec and nothing will make them leave. There are people who want no one to stay in high sec and wish to cripple everything about it. There are people in between, but the two extremes are large and emotional in discussion. My belief is simple. If a player wishes to live in high sec, I do not believe that anything will make them leave that is not their own curiosity. I do not believe that we can beat people out of high sec or destroy it until they go to other areas of space. Sometimes, I think we forget that every player has the option to not log back in. We want them to log

And back again

My very slow wormhole adventure continues almost as slowly as I am terminating my island in Animal Crossing.  My class 3 wormhole was not where I wanted to be. I was looking for a class 1 or 2 wormhole. I dropped my probes and with much less confusion scanned another wormhole. I remembered to dscan and collect my probes as I warped to the wormhole. I even remembered to drop a bookmark, wormholes being such good bookmark locations later. My wormhole told me it was a route into low sec. I tilted my head. How circular do our adventures go. Today might be the day to die and that too is okay. That mantra dances in the back of my head these days. Even if someone mocks me, what does that matter? Fattening someone's killboard is their issue not mine. So I jumped through and found myself in Efa in Khanid, tucked on the edge of high sec and null sec. What an interesting little system.  Several connections to high sec. A connection to null sec. This must be quite the traffic system.    I am f
