Fanfest 2015: Day One

Normally I enjoy being meticulously detailed about my day and flight. But, its late and I stayed out late talking to Neville Smit and Nosy Gamer. I found them after I abandoned CCP Masterplan at the Celtic Cross because it was packed with the tweetfleet meet and just everyone else in this kingdom. Its a small place and we had many, many people there.

That will be a theme I think. Small places, many people.

I also just found my sunglasses in a bag in the refrigerator. I thought I had lost them. Phew.

I'll try to put a photo album together tomorrow.

Anyway, the flight was fine. I went to the airport a bit early to hang out with Sion who was on my flight with his transfers. We ate burgers, wandered around and boarded. There was this plan to ask our seatmates if one would mind switching. He wound up with a couple beside him and I wound up with a high maintenance lady who felt his seat was to close to the bathroom. It was the same distance from that bathroom as my seat was to another but whatever. So, I wound up napping. My flight had a lot of Eve players on it which is not unexpected but always fascinates me anyway.

We get in and my bag is easy to find. Bright blue and a hard case it is obnoxiously visible. However, Sion's luggage didn't appear. As did not about ten other peoples. Urp. It turns out that it was lost. Dealing with that process took about an hour before we got our flybus to the Hotel.

I have to say that the fly bus is very laid back. It bugs me. We had our tickets and we presented them after we were on the bus to a lady with a clipboard. Along the way we asked about three people when we needed to show the tickets. It was not the way it was done last time. I have no idea why the lack of consistency but it was irritating. However, teh process was smooth. The transfer only took about five minutes and we got down to breakfast a bit before nine-thirty.

At breakfast I fund Steve and forced my company upon him. Breakfast wound up being Sion, Steve, Ali, and I with Corbexx wandering in to keep us company. After we ate (I had this patte stuff that's really, really good and I want more) we went to CCP. Corbexx had a load of stuff to give out to people and a Santa suit.

So we make the walk with a suitcase and we get CCP Leeloo to let us in. Then Corbexx dresses as Santa and we wander around the office. It was very, very fascinating. With out badges and bags in hand we went back to the hotel and I passed out for a few hours. Then it was up and get myself dressed to go to the wormhole dinner Corbexx had planned.

That got a bit bigger then expected. It was a good time but we had a lot of people show up. Corbxx planned around 30 and we got about 50. Whoops. Dinner was good. I need to go back there for a milkshake. Maybe tomorrow before I go to Harpa, I dunno. Maybe after. Maybe the next day... anyway...

My room is great. It isn't huge but its very, very nice. I just wish the windows opened wider. I love fresh air at night.

After dinner I walked with CCP Masterplan to the Celtic Cross. I met Gorski and waved to Sard Caid. I hung around for about an hour before deserting Masterplan and walking around for a bit. I then got some apple juice with ginger (its like a non-carbonated ginger beer but not flat) and dropped that off to the hotel when I was lured to go find Neville and Nosy with the added bonus of Seamus.

And tehre I spent the rest of the evening watching Neville hold court. Listening to the eve-uni/high sec crowd is fascinating stuff. It was a good chatting evening but not crowded and super busy over in the lobby of one of the Center Hotels.

Now I'm back. I'm consumed a cup of tea, eaten half a left over sandwich, and I'm chugging this ginger/applejuice mix along with some water. I'll sleep, get up, eat and get to Harpa around eleven so that I can wander the place and get a seat (maybe) for the opening talk.

I did think of a blogpost idea and I need to write that down to write it up at some later point.

And that is the day so far. Now I'm yawning and ready to snooze for a few more hours.

  1. Sov 5.0 presentation feedback:

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, now that I have that out of my system. Thank you for whatever part you had in shrinking the I-Hub and getting the upgrades to be player created. Now we just need to be able to build these (and other deployables) in towers and the deployment part of things will be complete! :-)

  7. I post on Twitter about as often as they have a solar eclipse in Iceland. But the election results justified it... so I did. And I repeat there is nobody who deserved this as much as you do, Sugar. Congratulations.

Maybe one day!

It was a random question that I knew the answer of. I have 'Sugar' as a keyword so it highlights green and catches my attention. This made me chuckle. Maybe I'll have to go and see what it is like to shoot a ship one day? I could not help but smile. Basi suggested that I put my Titan killmail in my bio and assert my badassery. I figure, naw. It was a roll of the dice that landed me that kill mail. It doesn't define me as a person. Bios are interesting. The idea of a biography is a way to personalize your account. You can learn a lot about a person by what they choose to put in their bio

Taboo Questions

Let us talk contentious things. What about high sec? When will CCP pay attention to high sec and those that cannot spend their time in dangerous space?  This is somewhat how the day started, sparked by a question from an anonymous poster. Speaking about high sec, in general, is one of the hardest things to do. The amount of emotion wrapped around the topic is staggering. There are people who want to stay in high sec and nothing will make them leave. There are people who want no one to stay in high sec and wish to cripple everything about it. There are people in between, but the two extremes are large and emotional in discussion. My belief is simple. If a player wishes to live in high sec, I do not believe that anything will make them leave that is not their own curiosity. I do not believe that we can beat people out of high sec or destroy it until they go to other areas of space. Sometimes, I think we forget that every player has the option to not log back in. We want them to log

And back again

My very slow wormhole adventure continues almost as slowly as I am terminating my island in Animal Crossing.  My class 3 wormhole was not where I wanted to be. I was looking for a class 1 or 2 wormhole. I dropped my probes and with much less confusion scanned another wormhole. I remembered to dscan and collect my probes as I warped to the wormhole. I even remembered to drop a bookmark, wormholes being such good bookmark locations later. My wormhole told me it was a route into low sec. I tilted my head. How circular do our adventures go. Today might be the day to die and that too is okay. That mantra dances in the back of my head these days. Even if someone mocks me, what does that matter? Fattening someone's killboard is their issue not mine. So I jumped through and found myself in Efa in Khanid, tucked on the edge of high sec and null sec. What an interesting little system.  Several connections to high sec. A connection to null sec. This must be quite the traffic system.    I am f
