CSM9 - Day 317

And this is it. This is my last update post for CSM9. Thank you. I feel that we’ve accomplished a lot this year.

These weekly updates started off as a way for me to share what I was doing and my thoughts. They expanded into snapshots of what is going on in game with commentary where it is needed. I like the format in general and may keep it without the CSM aspect once I have finished my time on the CSM. If I am on CSMX I will continue them.

Fanfest is next week. The announcements of the CSMX elections will be on the 19th at the Keynote. I’ve been asked if we are told the results before hand. The answer is no. We find out when everyone else does when it shows up on the stage. Right now, I’m not worried about the results. Those chips have already fallen. I want to thank you all for taking the time to engage, vote, and be a part of this process. The candidacy period is, I think, the hardest part about running for the CSM. From here on its just the easy stuff of getting work done.

I only know a handful of things that will happen at fanfest. What I do know, I am very excited about. You can casually multiply the number of verys to get a good idea about how excited I am. Work we have been putting in for most of the term is starting to bear fruit. It is a wonderful thing to see. On top of that the schedule has not one but two low sec roundtable sessions. One that is Faction Warfare oriented and one that is non-Faction Warfare oriented. I didn’t ask for them they just happened and that is a enormous win for low sec. That is recognition of our existence and of the two vastly different sides that make up low sec low sec space. I’m glowing. This type of acknowledgment is a quiet, powerful change.

CCP is working on Fanfest. Team 5-0 has created a sov survey that they’d like you to fill out where they are trying to address some of the finer detail. There is also an Entosis feedback thread that is exploding all over the place. There are multiple sov roundtables to discuss at fanfest as well. Once all of that is done and gathered I think we’ll start seeing the first round of changes and feedback.

The rest of this weeks dev blogs have been about fanfest. You can go and read them if you are interested. The main thing I will point out is that the HD stream is free this year and there is a schedule on the twitch channel. The low sec round tables are both on Friday and I will be at them both. As I have done each Eve event I attend, I will take notes as I can and try to provide rehashes of the round tables that I am able to attend. I am still working on my personal schedule of where I want to be, when.

While CSM9 is done, CCP is not. I had to drop everything to read and respond to some little things this week. That always makes me happy. CSM9 will transition in CSMX. There will be another week or two until Leeloo kicks CSM9 out. I suspect it depends on how long it takes NDAs to get filed and confluence to get up and running for the new members. If a significant number of CSM9 transitions to CSMX that will smooth the process and allow the rest of CSM9 to step down.

I'll write some reflections but I won't promise them now. I may be hip deep in CSMX and to busy to working on the future to ponder the past. We will see.

My CSM term is done and I am still excited about the future.

  1. “That is recognition of our existence and of the two vastly different sides that make up low sec low sec space. I’m glowing. This type of acknowledgment is a quiet, powerful change.”

Gotta love yet another indication of large institutional change. Despite all the fractious noise, I see a CCP continuing down the road of more player engagement. It’s everywhere. Fanfest roundtables. Sov surveys. Exploding feedback threads. CSM’s inclusion in Confluence. ‘Scope’ videos about player actions . . . Makes me smile.

    3. What CCP has been doing with the new development cycle has me optimistic. They are getting things done and moving in the right direction. Sov desperately needs fixing and has done for a long while. Like everyone else living out of POSes, I've been nervous about what CCP will do, if anything, but there is now light at the end of the tunnel.

Once they get the big fixes and changes out of the way, I'm hopeful that this new development cycle will allow for CCP to continuously improve all areas of the game. Seems we're living in interesting times :)

  4. "If you try to ignore me, you will find yourself in a face-to-face meeting with me, and I will have a binder full of things that I want you to pay attention to."

Your anger is our gain. I hope CCP recognizes that it's a win for them, too.

Maybe one day!

It was a random question that I knew the answer of. I have 'Sugar' as a keyword so it highlights green and catches my attention. This made me chuckle. Maybe I'll have to go and see what it is like to shoot a ship one day? I could not help but smile. Basi suggested that I put my Titan killmail in my bio and assert my badassery. I figure, naw. It was a roll of the dice that landed me that kill mail. It doesn't define me as a person. Bios are interesting. The idea of a biography is a way to personalize your account. You can learn a lot about a person by what they choose to put in their bio

Taboo Questions

Let us talk contentious things. What about high sec? When will CCP pay attention to high sec and those that cannot spend their time in dangerous space?  This is somewhat how the day started, sparked by a question from an anonymous poster. Speaking about high sec, in general, is one of the hardest things to do. The amount of emotion wrapped around the topic is staggering. There are people who want to stay in high sec and nothing will make them leave. There are people who want no one to stay in high sec and wish to cripple everything about it. There are people in between, but the two extremes are large and emotional in discussion. My belief is simple. If a player wishes to live in high sec, I do not believe that anything will make them leave that is not their own curiosity. I do not believe that we can beat people out of high sec or destroy it until they go to other areas of space. Sometimes, I think we forget that every player has the option to not log back in. We want them to log

And back again

My very slow wormhole adventure continues almost as slowly as I am terminating my island in Animal Crossing.  My class 3 wormhole was not where I wanted to be. I was looking for a class 1 or 2 wormhole. I dropped my probes and with much less confusion scanned another wormhole. I remembered to dscan and collect my probes as I warped to the wormhole. I even remembered to drop a bookmark, wormholes being such good bookmark locations later. My wormhole told me it was a route into low sec. I tilted my head. How circular do our adventures go. Today might be the day to die and that too is okay. That mantra dances in the back of my head these days. Even if someone mocks me, what does that matter? Fattening someone's killboard is their issue not mine. So I jumped through and found myself in Efa in Khanid, tucked on the edge of high sec and null sec. What an interesting little system.  Several connections to high sec. A connection to null sec. This must be quite the traffic system.    I am f
