The Past's Dance

It is the Eve of the patch. I'm listening to Declarations of War #86 part 1. One comment made is that nomadic movement will be much harder after the patch.  "What we do now," was said and what we do now no longer matters. Everything changes and we cannot hold onto what used to be to define what will be.

I'm on my way to move things to Bosena. It will be one of my last jumps without jump fatigue. I've been listening to people move  for days and days. Null sec has turned into a solid blue ocean as the forces have agreed to let each other maneuver so that they can maneuver. Instead of breaking out into fights and chasing and stalking each other they have decided that the gains of battle are lesser then the need to move as the deadline marches towards us.

Eve's starmap is a terrible navigation device and an amazingly beautiful statistical machine. As I flew across Empire space, I pulled up the active cynos.

I've love to see the past week in cyno movement. It would be a dance like documentation of the end. The performance of thousands of moments of time as ships swept across space. I believe that it would be beautiful. A fusion of tension and excitement despair and hope. The past is behind us. It can no longer define us. These flickers of energy tell the last frantic rush of an Era.

And then there will be nothing but change.

  1. After Phoebe, the nullsec map will consist of the former empires consolidated into new "island empires", surrounded by a 5 LY dead zone where nobody can operate without being outnumbered in a single jump, and anything beyond that 5 light year "dead zone" will be theoretically open for taking... unless the island empires are seperated by just 10 LY at max so nothing will have changed for the small guy.

I wonder if "island empries" was the goal. But at the end of day, the guy who can drop 500 ships on you always wins. Maybe he can't do from across the map, but then there's *always* some big guy close enough to rain death upon you.

Cue Il gattopardo (The Leopard) as the motto for Phoebe: "everything needs to change, so everything can stay the same"

    1. So if... the motto for Phoebe: "everything needs to change, so everything can stay the same"

Then other than cute sayings... what do YOU propose would work / is needed / should be done??

    2. Even if that is the case, several island empires is better for the game than a single empire continent.

    4. Cripes... I can't spell and I obviouslt can't cut and paste... sheesh.

Anyhoo... I tried to say that EVE is a game and any group that stifles or oppressively controls gameplay for a majority, or even a large number of players, over a large area or segment of the game should not be allowed...

As I said, EVE is a GAME, and one that, for the games health, should be accessible to a wife variety of players and playstyles... not limited to a playstyle favored by a minority, even a large minority.

    5. Well, the problem is that without big guys there are no big battles, yet once the big guys are big enough, they have more to lose than to win and even in the greatest travel operation in history, they'll rather blue each other to protect their assets than burn then world and risk their precious assets... because then they could be outnumbered post-Phoebe and be dead.

It says a lot of a company as CCP when 20% of the players are getting 80% of the attention and effort for two years and are being treated like holy cows, while the milk cows paying the show are being handed whatever is left after breastfeeding CCP's fortunate sons.

If I was an investor, I would be asking Hilmar, in very polite terms, why the players who pay little get so much attention whereas the ones who pay a lot get so little attention.

  2. Last night during an op Ashterothi pointed people towards the Star Map, with Cyno activity turned on.
The galactic cluster - she was full of cynos...

  3. Sunday evening EUTZ was just crazy for cynos. I should have taken a screenshot.

Concerning nullsec? It's dead, Jim. It died the day CCP opened the path to domination because ~big battles~.

I would never let it happen. But it has happen, and the only solution is that nullsec lords leave the game to never come back. Do whatever you want: as long as those people have the contacts, knowledge and will to defend what they've got, nullsec will be theirs.

    1. Pretty much this.

If CCP was serious about breaking the back of the cartels they could have done it by nerfing their income sources, and of course I am not talking about the cartel's rental incomes, which does appear to have taken a hit

It is pretty clear that the investors have read the tea leaves, and CCP management has hit the panic button on trying to breath some life into Eve. Finally they are making moves they should have made 2 years ago. So the only question is it in time, and is it enough.

Maybe one day!

It was a random question that I knew the answer of. I have 'Sugar' as a keyword so it highlights green and catches my attention. This made me chuckle. Maybe I'll have to go and see what it is like to shoot a ship one day? I could not help but smile. Basi suggested that I put my Titan killmail in my bio and assert my badassery. I figure, naw. It was a roll of the dice that landed me that kill mail. It doesn't define me as a person. Bios are interesting. The idea of a biography is a way to personalize your account. You can learn a lot about a person by what they choose to put in their bio

Taboo Questions

Let us talk contentious things. What about high sec? When will CCP pay attention to high sec and those that cannot spend their time in dangerous space?  This is somewhat how the day started, sparked by a question from an anonymous poster. Speaking about high sec, in general, is one of the hardest things to do. The amount of emotion wrapped around the topic is staggering. There are people who want to stay in high sec and nothing will make them leave. There are people who want no one to stay in high sec and wish to cripple everything about it. There are people in between, but the two extremes are large and emotional in discussion. My belief is simple. If a player wishes to live in high sec, I do not believe that anything will make them leave that is not their own curiosity. I do not believe that we can beat people out of high sec or destroy it until they go to other areas of space. Sometimes, I think we forget that every player has the option to not log back in. We want them to log

Conflicted

Halycon said it quite well in a comment he left about the skill point trading proposal for skill point changes. He is conflicted in many different ways. So am I. Somedays, I don't want to be open minded. I do not want to see other points of view. I want to not like things and not feel good about them and it be okay. That is something that is denied me for now. I've stated my opinion about the first round of proposals to trade skills. I don't like them. That isn't good enough. I have to answer why. Others do not like it as well. I cannot escape over to their side and be unhappy with them. I am dragged away and challenged about my distaste.  Some of the people I like most think the change is good. Other's think it has little meaning. They want to know why I don't like it. When this was proposed at the CSM summit, I swiveled my chair and asked if they realized that they were undoing the basic structure that characters and game progression worked under. They said th
