CSM9 - Day 91

It was a week of talking. A week of fixing. And the start of the August postings.

For some, “Halp! Crius changes! Mah spreadhseets!” Kaeda directed me to Eve-Industry.org and their fantastic Formulas for Eve Industry pdf.  Also don’t forget that Steve has Fuzzworks which he has been keeping up to date.

Foo reminded me that the right click menu has been cleaned up. Your PI planets are now under the NEO com menu. I forgot to add that last week.

The Drone Avionics fix required an extended down time. There was a news article about this but there were also Twitter posts. I know that twitter is of no interest to some. However, for anyone that likes to catch Eve related things I’d suggest the Eve Online, Eve Status, and Eve Help twitter accounts as well as CCP Explorer.

Also, people requested ship spinning and there is now ship spinning in the industry window. Thank CCP Optimal.

Skype and the forums have been active. We have started threads. CCP has started threads. We have conversations. Some more postings. People are writing theses. I'm amazed at how much information, thought, and discussion we produce.  Now and then someone asks me what is going on. Little digs hoping I'll forget myself and violate the NDA for the satisfaction of curiosity. They get what everyone else gets. What has been said or we have permission to say.

The HAC tweaks thread has been going hot and heavy. CCP Rise even stated that the CSM did not agree with him. I do not love or hate the Ishtar. I have other ships that I prefer to fly because I enjoy it. However, I am an Ishtar pilot with HACV and all my T2 drone goodies. When CCP rise posted in June that the rebalance would be coming I sat down with everyone I could and discussed Ishtar with them. I had exactly one person say Ishtars were fine.

But what does Sugar think about rebalancing Ishtar? My thoughts ranged from turning it into a more heavy drone focused platform to cutting down some of the range that makes it such an incredible sniping platform. I was not in love with the thought of moving the slots around because I am very tired of Eve becoming Eve Online: All Armor Spaceships All the Time. People feel this is a very mild nerf. It is a nerf but will it balance it so that people sometimes go, "Oh wow Ishtar is not the answer?" I don't know. We'll see and poke at it again.

It is changing in the middle of the AT. Points will not be changing. Some people are mad about this. I suggest teams use that energy to fuel those brilliant theory crafting skills instead.

The sharable overview thread is up. They are also already on Sisi. You can test them out if you’d like and give feedback. Right now people want to do more than just share their presets.

Jump fuel conservation modules are coming. I was asked a few times about where these were. Here they are. They will be dropping from a besieged site in a low sec system near you (hopefully). They are also capital sized modules. Enjoy. I was made quite happy by the person who complained that the modules were behind sites you had to hunt down in low sec and evade low sec residents to do. Damn right. Go get that low sec content but don’t expect it to just jump into your wallet.

There has been a lot of talking and a lot of posting. Null sec is on the tip of everyone's tongues. The Features and Ideas Forum is full of thoughts and suggestions about the remaking of null sec. There are a lot of opinions. Mechanics. Social. Even arguments that it is every player's responsibility to drop everything and go storm null sec. There are hands in the air. Posts of despair. It is a highly charged and extremely complex topic.

I think about null sec. I'm gaining a rather rapid education. However, one problem I have with formulating a grand idea to add to the pile is that I don't know null sec. I'm not talking about mechanics. I'm talking about what draws people to null sec. I don't know what desires dance within their eyes that cause them to slip into the deep. I don't know if I will come to an understanding that will help me solve null sec's problems. And that's okay.

I'm here for other reasons. I do not think a single person sat there and said, "Wow! With Sugar Kyle on the CSM null sec is saved! That's one vote cast for null secs future!" I do know how null sec interacts with other areas of the game and that is where I will have more to say.

On the topic of not knowing things, that happens a lot. Someone asked me a rather specific question about a change in Crius. I had a general idea of what they wanted and what dev blog it was in but I did not have an answer. "Are not you on the CSM?" I was asked. "Yes. I am on the CSM. I am not the developer who wrote Crius." I try to keep up on everything that is coming down from CCP, what players think and want, and what is going on, what might happen, how people feel about things, as well as what I think and want. However, I don't have every single bit lodged in my skull and I am okay with that as well. Searches are a great thing.

I need to schedule my next Eve Uni session. I'm thinking August 24th. That will also let me get people's input about the mid-September Summit topic list (once that comes out).

Comments

  1. I share your ignorance about nullsec. For the 4+ years I have been playing this game, nothing I ever read made me want to live there. I "get" wormholes, FW, RvB, maybe even lowsec pirating and industry / mining but why someone wants to expose themselves to nullsec politics and is happy to be told where to rat, what to fly, what tower to shoot etc is beyond me. Maybe I need to fly in some bloc NS to experience it but at present I'd rather stay in my hole.

  2. In my experience and opinion (As a high/null back and forther over the last few years...)

Highsec is about safety and commerce (it's getting more about survival lately).
Lowsec seems to be about survival and daring exploits.
Wormholes seem to be about mystery and random encounters.
Nullsec is about power and control.

These are just my feelings about them. Others are welcome to add and correct them with their views. These are just the things that immediately pop into mind when I think about these areas.

  3. I have no experience in null sec. I am a faction war pilot and co-ceo of one of the larger fw alliances. Several times we have mentioned that we would love to have one null system next to the war zone. However, we also know there is no point in trying. Were we to make an attempt we would be annihalted by the CFC. Although we are fairly large, we are a gnat compared to CFC. I've flown through these null systems that border FW space. They are always empty. That is the problem with null these days. There is no opportunity for anyone to get into null unless they rent or join CFC or pl. How to fix this, I have no idea, but I do like the ideas that say you have to use the space to keep sov

  4. Personally I'd like to see sov established by ratting, but also security established by ratting, so ratting to keep sov will eventually turn the space into low and then high sec. Push/pull just like industry got (which is an interesting problem to optimize, too).

    1. A system like that would eventually turn every system into highsec....

It was a random question that I knew the answer of. I have 'Sugar' as a keyword so it highlights green and catches my attention. This made me chuckle. Maybe I'll have to go and see what it is like to shoot a ship one day? I could not help but smile. Basi suggested that I put my Titan killmail in my bio and assert my badassery. I figure, naw. It was a roll of the dice that landed me that kill mail. It doesn't define me as a person. Bios are interesting. The idea of a biography is a way to personalize your account. You can learn a lot about a person by what they choose to put in their bio

Taboo Questions

Let us talk contentious things. What about high sec? When will CCP pay attention to high sec and those that cannot spend their time in dangerous space?  This is somewhat how the day started, sparked by a question from an anonymous poster. Speaking about high sec, in general, is one of the hardest things to do. The amount of emotion wrapped around the topic is staggering. There are people who want to stay in high sec and nothing will make them leave. There are people who want no one to stay in high sec and wish to cripple everything about it. There are people in between, but the two extremes are large and emotional in discussion. My belief is simple. If a player wishes to live in high sec, I do not believe that anything will make them leave that is not their own curiosity. I do not believe that we can beat people out of high sec or destroy it until they go to other areas of space. Sometimes, I think we forget that every player has the option to not log back in. We want them to log

Conflicted

Halycon said it quite well in a comment he left about the skill point trading proposal for skill point changes. He is conflicted in many different ways. So am I. Somedays, I don't want to be open minded. I do not want to see other points of view. I want to not like things and not feel good about them and it be okay. That is something that is denied me for now. I've stated my opinion about the first round of proposals to trade skills. I don't like them. That isn't good enough. I have to answer why. Others do not like it as well. I cannot escape over to their side and be unhappy with them. I am dragged away and challenged about my distaste.  Some of the people I like most think the change is good. Other's think it has little meaning. They want to know why I don't like it. When this was proposed at the CSM summit, I swiveled my chair and asked if they realized that they were undoing the basic structure that characters and game progression worked under. They said th
