Kronos and Low Sec

It's patch day and I decided to write a low sec focused post.

It was to both a sigh and a resigned bit of amusement that I saw someone complain that Kronos does not have anything for high sec in it. I also realized that I may not have taken the time that I should to focus on what is coming to low sec with Kronos. Kirith has done a fantastic job but I'm going to piggy back and make sure I list them to. Part of that is just self preservation for when people ask me, as they inevitably will, what has happened for low sec recently.

Complete Kronos Patchnotes.

I'm pulling out the low sec specific content and listing it below. It is not the sum total of the patch. Much of the patch will touch every part of space such as the scatter can changes.

Mordu's Legion will now spawn in low sec belts. They will drop Mordu's Legion Blue Print Copies (BPC).
New exploration site that will drop:
  • New low-grade pirate implants
  • Eight different ship skins
  • New module blue print copies
Wormholes to known space will now spawn with greater frequency in low sec.
Deep Space Transports are rebalanced and become a possibility for low sec transport with some scouting and forethought.
Faction warfare received some changes.
  • New large outposts with no restrictions.
  • NPC changes inside of the complexes.
  • Cloaking restrictions inside of complexes.
Ore anoms with better, more tastier ore.

If it isn't clear, I love this direction for low sec. Kirith notes:
"...low sec will be the "wild west" frontier where the individual finds his way through lucky panhandling strikes while avoiding the mafias and cartels and gang wars happening around them. Random sites and drops means large scale farming will not succeed in harvesting the wealth thus organized and militarized control will not be cost effective for the most part."
I was pleased when I read that. I quote him not because I've suddenly lost the ability to speak for myself but because someone else is seeing what I see. I started wondering how to define low sec a while ago. Some said that we don't need to define it. I disagreed. By not defining it we were allowing anything to happen because saying, "No that isn't low sec" wouldn't work when we couldn't say what low sec was.

To protect it we had to create it. For everyone that said they like low sec as it is they still needed to give some tangible substance to what that was. It has been one of the harder parts of this entire adventure. I feel with Kronos we have solidly set a standard for low sec. One where the environment that the residents like is preserved yet improved upon. I think we're coming into that. It's been the direction that I've been slogging through. I realize now, having made it to the CSM that I am also dragging as much of low sec with me as I can. Hopefully, other's like this direction too.

It doesn't mean we are done. I'm still very, very focused on low level content and more entry level friendliness for low sec. We still have to have these discussions about force projection and the current state of supers. We have to continue to say what we do what and what we do not want. And we have to keep up the momentum.

Faction Warfare still has needs. Non-Faction Warfare still has issues. This is not the end of things, do not worry about that. I am eager for the next release. I expect it will be a busy six weeks and I've already attempt to get a jump on that.

And then there is everything else. Yes, NPC nullsec. And high sec and wormholes and well, everything. It will be a good six weeks while we perfect Industry. And then? Well, the future is what the future holds. We're going to take it a piece at a time. Hopefully you all keep walking with me. I'm happy to drag everyone along.

Your Kronos patch notes may be different from mine...

    1. I'm sure they will considering you were the creator of that comment.

    2. I guessed that you were talking about me. I would send you a EVE-mail developing my point, but unfortunately I haven't feel compelled to resub over Kronos and so can't do that.

    3. I'm always happy to listen. I'm on Skype and gtalk or an email if you want.

  2. Also:

"Anomalies full of Hedbergite, Hemorphite, Jaspet, and in rare cases Arkonor and Bistot have begun to appear throughout low security space."

Combine that with the new Prospect (and allow yourself a smug moment for your "ninja mining" post a few months back!) and you've got either new stuff for lowseccers to do or (more likely) new targets because of the hiseccer carebears like me coming to ninja.

    1. Added it :) Thank you. I knew there was more stuff but my mind is now cluttered between this release and the next one.

  3. Low-sec in general is more fun.

    But faction-warfare got destroyed.
The winning side in faction warfare was made stronger, the losing side weaker.

Farmers tend to be on the winning side... because taking a system became damn hard, and defending it became easier (because of the stronger NPC rats in plexes). Its insanely hard to conquer a system. If the "losing side" manages to do so... the enemy faction can flip it back easier (because they tend to have 2-3 times as many players, with the farmers on their side).

Besides that, the farmers (which tend to be on the winning side) became way more powerful.
Of course, chasing a cloaky condor out of a plex was a nuisance... now they tend to be in a warp-stabbed cruiser/destroyer (they got the money anyway). With a powerfull NPC on their side... which basically means, you need to bring at least 2 players to fight them... A harder thing, if you are outnumbered 3-1.

Time will tell how it eventually turns out... but i fear that warzones won't flip sides anymore. And eventually the losing-sides players will yust leave faction warfare... only making the unbalanced problem worse.

It was a random question that I knew the answer of. I have 'Sugar' as a keyword so it highlights green and catches my attention. This made me chuckle. Maybe I'll have to go and see what it is like to shoot a ship one day? I could not help but smile. Basi suggested that I put my Titan killmail in my bio and assert my badassery. I figure, naw. It was a roll of the dice that landed me that kill mail. It doesn't define me as a person. Bios are interesting. The idea of a biography is a way to personalize your account. You can learn a lot about a person by what they choose to put in their bio

Taboo Questions

Let us talk contentious things. What about high sec? When will CCP pay attention to high sec and those that cannot spend their time in dangerous space?  This is somewhat how the day started, sparked by a question from an anonymous poster. Speaking about high sec, in general, is one of the hardest things to do. The amount of emotion wrapped around the topic is staggering. There are people who want to stay in high sec and nothing will make them leave. There are people who want no one to stay in high sec and wish to cripple everything about it. There are people in between, but the two extremes are large and emotional in discussion. My belief is simple. If a player wishes to live in high sec, I do not believe that anything will make them leave that is not their own curiosity. I do not believe that we can beat people out of high sec or destroy it until they go to other areas of space. Sometimes, I think we forget that every player has the option to not log back in. We want them to log

Conflicted

Halycon said it quite well in a comment he left about the skill point trading proposal for skill point changes. He is conflicted in many different ways. So am I. Somedays, I don't want to be open minded. I do not want to see other points of view. I want to not like things and not feel good about them and it be okay. That is something that is denied me for now. I've stated my opinion about the first round of proposals to trade skills. I don't like them. That isn't good enough. I have to answer why. Others do not like it as well. I cannot escape over to their side and be unhappy with them. I am dragged away and challenged about my distaste.  Some of the people I like most think the change is good. Other's think it has little meaning. They want to know why I don't like it. When this was proposed at the CSM summit, I swiveled my chair and asked if they realized that they were undoing the basic structure that characters and game progression worked under. They said th
