And... so.... why?

Hmm. I'm about to go to bed but decided to empty my mind because I am annoyed. I'm annoyed because I died because I'm stupid and forgot that null sec means we have to behave in this way and that way. I'm rusty at it. And I'm amused, because I'm so hard headed.

Mechanics in game will always be a bane. Whenever I find myself hissing through my teeth disliking the mechanics of a type of space (I really, abjectly, hate bubbles) I remind myself that someone else likes it. It reminds me of the high sec arguments that I hear all the time. High sec doesn't suck. Some people love it. Other's may not enjoy it but I don't understand what they enjoy about wormholes and null sec ether.

And so, not understanding other people is again the fate of humanity.

That's what talking is for. I wound up asking the FC why we took a fight tonight after we realized we were not going to make much of a dent. Asking that kind of question is hard. It is hard to approach someone after a strategy does not work and ask them why they did it and not sound aggressive or accusatory. I want to know. After all, to learn, I have to see how they see. I can't follow a lot of the recommended methods (such as the video of said fight that will probably appear) so I have to seek information where I can. I don't FC. I don't solo. I want to do more than blindly shoot at things when told to (my FCs are awesome and I'll blindly shoot as told everyday) and it seems, to me, as if I never understand the situation. And that may just mean I don't have the ability for it. Which, is something that needs to be accepted as well.

Still... Sometimes it feels like "Why?" is the only question that I ask. Maybe it is. And then, when I question things I wonder if maybe I just don't get it. Maybe I just don't get Eve. Maybe I'm not aggressive enough. Maybe I'm utterly weird that I loathe watching videos. Maybe, maybe maybe...

Maybe, I will remember to use tactical bookmarks in null sec. I'm trying to stay out of interceptors a bit this time around. It is obvious that I have skills that need to become more ingrained habits. So, I'll struggle through picking the correct system name and try to be a good girl and get out in space some more. And participate. And improve. And ask some more questions because it seems that I have so many...

Ahh well. Another Omen. Another day. Maybe I need to enroll in OUCH.

  2. I probably feel the same way about lowsec as you do about null. I just can't get used to the f'ing gate guns. All the best practices and in-grained reflexes I have acquired over time from living in NPC null just get me blapped in lowsec by the gateguns. I can actually get quite miffed about it when I screw up, which is often.

As for asking why a FC did something; That's just invaluable information for any fleet member. By knowing why a FC did something any fleet member will simply be better prepared next time a similar situation occurs.

And even though eve is just a game. A FC has the privilege of telling people what to do, but this also means he has a responsibility to the fleet, a responsibility that IMHO includes explaining why they did things. Even if the answer is "I thought we had a slim chance; I was wrong".

And I think if FC's sound annoyed after losing a fleet, it is more likely then not a annoyance at themselves.

Now obviously in some situations it can be fleet members who mess up and it's not in any way or shape the FC's fault that something went sour. But at least when I FC I like to think that I'm still responsible for their actions as an FC. As an FC I should have clarified, or I should have asked, or I should not have allowed the special snowflake to bring a shield tanked ship to an armour fleet, etc.. It was my responsibility, so I'm responsible, kind of thinking.

Although I'll add to that like I stated before, it's still just a game and the above shouldn't be taken as serious as the words themselves might convey. I'm not going to commit seppuku over losing a fleet.

  3. sometimes as an FC i find that if we dont Try something to "test the mettle" of a fleet comp or idea. one thing that helps me FC and our other Fc's over at OUCH, is that every operations member gets a chance to tell us what he or she though went right and wrong. you may think that this would cause mass name calling or a breakdown in comms, but i find that it works quite well. i took a fight last weekend that i knew we were probably going to loose. fighting a goon harpy fleet with burst support using a fleet comp for the first time was probubly a mistake... even though we came out ahead 100m lost 750m killed. bot line, it was really constructive to have even the students give their input on the fleet composition that we were using.

also ouch can help with the whole bubble thing. we teach null sec survival and basic tackling skills http://ouch.artofwar-alliance.com/index.php

It was a random question that I knew the answer of. I have 'Sugar' as a keyword so it highlights green and catches my attention. This made me chuckle. Maybe I'll have to go and see what it is like to shoot a ship one day? I could not help but smile. Basi suggested that I put my Titan killmail in my bio and assert my badassery. I figure, naw. It was a roll of the dice that landed me that kill mail. It doesn't define me as a person. Bios are interesting. The idea of a biography is a way to personalize your account. You can learn a lot about a person by what they choose to put in their bio

Taboo Questions

Let us talk contentious things. What about high sec? When will CCP pay attention to high sec and those that cannot spend their time in dangerous space?  This is somewhat how the day started, sparked by a question from an anonymous poster. Speaking about high sec, in general, is one of the hardest things to do. The amount of emotion wrapped around the topic is staggering. There are people who want to stay in high sec and nothing will make them leave. There are people who want no one to stay in high sec and wish to cripple everything about it. There are people in between, but the two extremes are large and emotional in discussion. My belief is simple. If a player wishes to live in high sec, I do not believe that anything will make them leave that is not their own curiosity. I do not believe that we can beat people out of high sec or destroy it until they go to other areas of space. Sometimes, I think we forget that every player has the option to not log back in. We want them to log

Conflicted

Halycon said it quite well in a comment he left about the skill point trading proposal for skill point changes. He is conflicted in many different ways. So am I. Somedays, I don't want to be open minded. I do not want to see other points of view. I want to not like things and not feel good about them and it be okay. That is something that is denied me for now. I've stated my opinion about the first round of proposals to trade skills. I don't like them. That isn't good enough. I have to answer why. Others do not like it as well. I cannot escape over to their side and be unhappy with them. I am dragged away and challenged about my distaste.  Some of the people I like most think the change is good. Other's think it has little meaning. They want to know why I don't like it. When this was proposed at the CSM summit, I swiveled my chair and asked if they realized that they were undoing the basic structure that characters and game progression worked under. They said th
