Gatecamps. The Unsolved Puzzle

There is a problem in Eve online. That problem is that to get to another system you have to warp to a gate. You then have to jump through that gate. If you have the audacity to be of outlaw security status, everyone that jumps through that gate will accuse you of gatecamping.

Some groups have solved this problem by hot drops and blopsdrops. However, for the plebeians, warping is the only mode of transportation. It can be a gate in the middle of no where, in a set of systems build like a Rubix Cube with no chokepoint in high sec while you are dying to Concord and logging out and you will be accused of gatecamping.


Take a fleet anywhere and you are gatecamping. People will warp through you and be like, "hahahaha I made it off!" because really, we were trying to kill their shuttle and not waiting for the FC to tell us to jump into the fight on the other side. Your shuttle. Every day. More important then glorious battle.

Yes. It is all a gatecamp. If it is not, it is a station camp. Every day. All day. Always. Yes. The truth is now known.

  1. It's called bad game design. The game mechanics simply don't encourage spontaneous PVP combat anywhere else, except at gates.

  2. The reason why they expect everyone to be a gatecamper is because there are gatecampers who really shoot shuttles.

    As I travel a lot in lowsec (research), I can agree that real gatecamps are rare. But they are indeed annoying and for a newbie who doesn't know how to deal with them (star map/statistics/ship kills last hour) are deadly.

    Gatecampers got their bad name, because they are only dangerous to newbies. Everyone was popped in his early days and the bad memory remained.

  3. So you mean to say that your corp doesn't camp a gate as if your butts were welded to it? Obviously you're doing something wrong. ;-)

Taboo Questions

Let us talk contentious things. What about high sec? When will CCP pay attention to high sec and those that cannot spend their time in dangerous space?  This is somewhat how the day started, sparked by a question from an anonymous poster. Speaking about high sec, in general, is one of the hardest things to do. The amount of emotion wrapped around the topic is staggering. There are people who want to stay in high sec and nothing will make them leave. There are people who want no one to stay in high sec and wish to cripple everything about it. There are people in between, but the two extremes are large and emotional in discussion. My belief is simple. If a player wishes to live in high sec, I do not believe that anything will make them leave that is not their own curiosity. I do not believe that we can beat people out of high sec or destroy it until they go to other areas of space. Sometimes, I think we forget that every player has the option to not log back in. My very slow wormhole adventure continues almost as slowly as I am terminating my island in Animal Crossing.  My class 3 wormhole was not where I wanted to be. I was looking for a class 1 or 2 wormhole. I dropped my probes and with much less confusion scanned another wormhole. I remembered to dscan and collect my probes as I warped to the wormhole. I even remembered to drop a bookmark, wormholes being such good bookmark locations later. My wormhole told me it was a route into low sec. I tilted my head. How circular do our adventures go. Today might be the day to die and that too is okay. That mantra dances in the back of my head these days. Even if someone mocks me, what does that matter? Fattening someone's killboard is their issue not mine. So I jumped through and found myself in Efa in Khanid, tucked on the edge of high sec and null sec. What an interesting little system.  Several connections to high sec. A connection to null sec. This must be quite the traffic system.    I am f
