I find myself rather irritated with a particular situation. It is a situation that is mild enough that I wonder if I should be irritated. Yet, here I am. Irritated. I even waited a week to see if I would still be irritated. I am. Not angry. Irritated.
The situation is this:
I haul a lot of things. I often offer to do hauls for my extended community. These are people who are not in corp with me but who I have a good in game relationship with. Many are 'pure' PvPers and large scale logistics such as hulls are a major pain in the butt for them. With my route in and out of Jita I often do buys for various individuals.
The way I set these up is I ask the person to eve-mail me what they want. I want links to the items. I do not think that is to much to ask. I will then return a price list to them. They can, from that, decide what they want to buy. Its neat and I don't spend my time going "did you mean this or that?" The prices are clear. Its just efficient.
I was writing my reply and hit send and an unexpected popup appeared.
Huh. I often see this with new players. My own is turned off and many people have not written eve mails to non blues or corp mates when they are new. This particular player was far from new. So, I send the reply and added a little note to, "Please turn off your CSPA fee :P"
The response was that they did not know how to turn it off and that they were sure that I had enough ISK anyway.
That is true. The 2,950 ISK that the CSPA fee charges me is not going to break my wallet. However, when I am writing said eve-mail to communicate with someone who I am doing a buy and haul for, I do not think it is unreasonable to ask for it to be turned off.
2,950 ISK is not a lot of ISK. Whenever I come across the fees I always ask people to turn them off. If someone does not know how it is amazing what googling "CSPA eve" does. It causes one to find this link to the Offical Eve Online Wiki about the CSPA Fee and the Eve mail system.
When he said no, I went, "WTF?" Before I got mad I decided to sit on it and debate if I was being unreasonable by being irritated or if he was by not removing the fee.
I'm still irritated. Am I being petty over the 2,950 ISK?

It's not the ISK that would irritate me, it's the extra clicking I would have to deal with to close the box if everyone had the same attitude.
ReplyDeleteYou're doing him a HUGE favour by buying and shipping his hulls for him, and he can't make one small change to reduce the time you need to spend dealing with his stuff.
It's not the money that's the problem, it's the principle of the thing in my opinion.
See, I think I'm irritated over the ISK and principal. I hate others dictating my wallet.

ReplyDeleteYou're doing the guy a favour. If he wants his CSPA on for a reason he could have said "No I'm not turning it off because blah blah blah". That MIGHT be a valid response. Just saying NO! is like saying "I know you're helping me out, but I can't be bothered to do the same for you, even when my end takes like 20 seconds and is a one time effort."
That said, did you explain to the guy why you wanted him to turn it off? If he thinks you're doing it just to be prissy then that might have promted his outright NO.
I just asked him to turn it off. He said he didn't know how and knew I had the ISK.

ReplyDeleteExactly! The ISK isn't a big deal but the extra clicking is annoying.
From the same wiki page : "If unknown players (i.e. those not in your address book) are sending you an EVE Mail, they will have to pay the CSPA charge before they can send the mail."
ReplyDeleteDon't get mad, add a 10% surcharge for the added inconvenience until he either adds you as a contact or sets the charge to 0.
I already charge him 0.
