The Value of PI to Fights?

One of the three features Dust 514's planetary conquest was supposed to introduced was more better Planetary Interaction. Out of all of the bonuses, this one made the most sense. People are on the ground and the PI produced on the planet being more better is sensible.

Yet, for some reason CCP has decided that people will not fight over PI (planetary interaction).  In the Dev Blog posted by CCP FoxFour he writes:


A small note about EVE bonuses
We will not be applying bonuses to EVE for ownership of districts until the May 16th. This gives us the ability to ensure the launch of planetary conquest goes as smooth as possible and filter out any noise that the EVE bonuses might have.
We had announced that there would be three bonuses in EVE, one for each surface infrastructure. The planetary interaction bonus for owning the production facility has been dropped. There are many reasons for this, the primary being that we didn’t feel it was a worthwhile bonus to provoke fights and didn’t have time to create a new one.
We are committed to making this an enjoyable and worthwhile experience for you all and hope that these changes and dev blog help with that. If you have any questions please ask away in the comments thread for this dev blog.


But it was the only one that made sense. POCOs are points in space that people can go to for fights. They have value to their holder if it is a well used planet. They are off gates and off stations allowing for smaller ships to get on field. We were looking forward to fights for POCOs and over the last several weeks people have been snapping up the POCOs and moons around temperate planets bringing traffic into the systems which brings fights behind them.


Maybe I misunderstand the bonus? It seems to me if Dust = More Better PI = Need Customs Offices (POCO) = POCOs are desirable = Fight for all the things. I used high grade math to help me work through this situation.

This makes very little sense to me as an Eve player. Plantary interaction means people need to use the POCOs (player owned customs offices). People using POCOs means they have to deal with taxes. People set Taxes to 100%. We get fights and over POCOs now and they don't have extra goodies. People reinforce other peoples POCOs to provoke fights or just deny them their PI. People clear out the POCOs in systems that they move into.

How these will not encourage fights, I don't know. Unless it is because the fights are more Eve side and not Dust side. I can understand the thought that a Dust player who is not an eye player would not understand or care about the spaceships having a war over the box in the sky.  But if the goal is to integrate the two the Eve player would encourage the Dust player, or as we have seen in Molden Heath the Eve/Dust corporation moves into the area to gain this bonus. It is a full circle.

I may just be misunderstanding the entire situation due to not being very deep in the Dust side of things.

    1. I did not because I thought that others were. After skimming the thread, it did not seem that anyone asks that question on the forum. I have since asked it. I will write an update if/when I receive any information.

  2. The only time I have voluntarily pvp'd was over a poco.
    In fact almost all of my involuntary pvp is over pi.

Taboo Questions

Let us talk contentious things. What about high sec? When will CCP pay attention to high sec and those that cannot spend their time in dangerous space?  This is somewhat how the day started, sparked by a question from an anonymous poster. Speaking about high sec, in general, is one of the hardest things to do. The amount of emotion wrapped around the topic is staggering. There are people who want to stay in high sec and nothing will make them leave. There are people who want no one to stay in high sec and wish to cripple everything about it. There are people in between, but the two extremes are large and emotional in discussion. My belief is simple. If a player wishes to live in high sec, I do not believe that anything will make them leave that is not their own curiosity. I do not believe that we can beat people out of high sec or destroy it until they go to other areas of space. Sometimes, I think we forget that every player has the option to not log back in. And back again

My very slow wormhole adventure continues almost as slowly as I am terminating my island in Animal Crossing.  My class 3 wormhole was not where I wanted to be. I was looking for a class 1 or 2 wormhole. I dropped my probes and with much less confusion scanned another wormhole. I remembered to dscan and collect my probes as I warped to the wormhole. I even remembered to drop a bookmark, wormholes being such good bookmark locations later. My wormhole told me it was a route into low sec. I tilted my head. How circular do our adventures go. Today might be the day to die and that too is okay. That mantra dances in the back of my head these days. Even if someone mocks me, what does that matter? Fattening someone's killboard is their issue not mine. So I jumped through and found myself in Efa in Khanid, tucked on the edge of high sec and null sec.
