Meeting the Neighbors

I know nothing about the area that I live in. I consider myself fairly social but I have learned that I have a long way to go in the grand game of knowing people.

Molden Heath is a loop with an attachment to high sec at the 'handle'. On one side of the loop there is a high sec pocket.  It is two low sec systems away from the solid swath of empire high sec. It is composed of four systems. I've visited them a few dozen times back when I could still do sites in high sec. My alts sometimes cut through them when moving things. For the most part, it's a blacked out section of space that doesn't really exist to me.

I've learned that it contains a vast, amount of drama and I am amazed.

Molden Heath has a healthy population of pirates. It also has a population of anti-pirates. I've never thought much about them. They exist in the area. They will probably try to kill me if they find me alone. I don't know what they do with their time. They don't talk to us or respond in local. Sometimes we have fights. They used to use massive numbers of blackbirds but have recently stopped and picked up their game a bit.

But I know nothing about them. It never occurred to me that they lived in the high sec pocket. In retrospect that was rather stupid of me. At least two of the systems have stations and I always see people when I pass through. But, I have been living in low sec and associating with the people that live there. I never gave those high sec systems a thought. I know that people occasionally mine there, but people also mine in Teonsude's ice belt with a low sec gate hovering right there. Doing crazy things seems to be about the norm for Eve players.

I stopped reading the forums last October. I skim them now for major topics but I no longer spend large amounts of time reading them. Crime and Punishment is always an interesting section and a link diverted me to a discussion about a part of Molden Heath I never knew about.

This thread is about their internal fight. It is hard to read because the original poster is somewhat insane and makes very little sense. I learned a lot, after I sifted through it, about the space that I live in. This thread made no sense but I read it anyway.

It seems that the people who live in the high sec pocket call it 'The Island'. Several groups live there and roleplay(?) I think. I'm not really sure. The entire series of posts were to amazing. However, one group that I've seen around the area some, seems to be in a fight with another group. They also feel that they have killed us constantly and I don't really know what else.

All in all the entire thing is an insane but fascinating look into the place that I live. Its like having neighbors you never knew about. It makes me want to hang out in the high sec pocket to see if they are going to war with each other.

I obviously need to meet more people and gain a few more chat channels. I feel bad having missed out on all of this after living in Molden Heath for the last year.

Comments

  1. These threads ... I don't even ... somebody should point them to the IGS.

And "7-2 is NRDS..... We just set everyone red" gave me flashbacks of good old CVA.

  2. I just visited The Island. It was quiet so I didn't get to do my "I am not a Space Noob, I am a free man" isolationist Prisoner comedy. Also - it contains an ice field. A hi sec ice field that had three people in it on a Saturday afternoon. I have now seen it all. Wrap it up people, we're all done here.

It was a random question that I knew the answer of. I have 'Sugar' as a keyword so it highlights green and catches my attention. This made me chuckle. Maybe I'll have to go and see what it is like to shoot a ship one day? I could not help but smile. Basi suggested that I put my Titan killmail in my bio and assert my badassery. I figure, naw. It was a roll of the dice that landed me that kill mail. It doesn't define me as a person. Bios are interesting. The idea of a biography is a way to personalize your account. You can learn a lot about a person by what they choose to put in their bio

Taboo Questions

Let us talk contentious things. What about high sec? When will CCP pay attention to high sec and those that cannot spend their time in dangerous space?  This is somewhat how the day started, sparked by a question from an anonymous poster. Speaking about high sec, in general, is one of the hardest things to do. The amount of emotion wrapped around the topic is staggering. There are people who want to stay in high sec and nothing will make them leave. There are people who want no one to stay in high sec and wish to cripple everything about it. There are people in between, but the two extremes are large and emotional in discussion. My belief is simple. If a player wishes to live in high sec, I do not believe that anything will make them leave that is not their own curiosity. I do not believe that we can beat people out of high sec or destroy it until they go to other areas of space. Sometimes, I think we forget that every player has the option to not log back in. We want them to log

Conflicted

Halycon said it quite well in a comment he left about the skill point trading proposal for skill point changes. He is conflicted in many different ways. So am I. Somedays, I don't want to be open minded. I do not want to see other points of view. I want to not like things and not feel good about them and it be okay. That is something that is denied me for now. I've stated my opinion about the first round of proposals to trade skills. I don't like them. That isn't good enough. I have to answer why. Others do not like it as well. I cannot escape over to their side and be unhappy with them. I am dragged away and challenged about my distaste.  Some of the people I like most think the change is good. Other's think it has little meaning. They want to know why I don't like it. When this was proposed at the CSM summit, I swiveled my chair and asked if they realized that they were undoing the basic structure that characters and game progression worked under. They said th
