[TL;DR: This is a CSM post]
I've gotten a bit tired of the CSM stuff and the actual event has just started. I’m prone to burning myself out on information. As I went to look over CSM candidates I found myself rather unhappy. I think I had a much more naive, hopeful view when I vowed to participate and keep myself informed. The one low sec Representative had to withdraw because real life is greater then video games. My second choice is into industry which is fantastic and I fully plan to support him but it still leaves my home barren.
That is why, when I heard the whispering that Kwark was going to run for CSM I said, “If he actually does run I’ll support him.” When he put up his initial campaign in troll speak I rolled my eyes. I was frustrated. It was not that he was not serious. It is that for some reason that I do not understand he decided to approach it in the stupidest fashion he could. I didn't know if he was skimming for Darius III’s ‘lol’ votes or what but I wanted to smack him upside the head.
I don’t know Kwark personally. I doubt he knows I exist and my sum total of interaction with him has been 2 sentences where he ignored me for 2 hours and I finally gave up. While that does not sound thrilling it doesn't matter. I don’t need Kwark to live in my pocket. He is a capable Eve player with a ridiculous knowledge of the game. He is a low sec resident that has played in every part of the game and understands low sec for low sec.
That is what is important. I don’t find him approachable However, at least (so far) he does not have that ridiculous disgusting smugness of some of the candidates. Nor do I think he will put on the politicians face which has eliminated the others from my list. He will be exactly who he is and that is about all I could ask for. I find myself rather disgusted with the politicking personality changes. The smug ones who do not want my voice will not receive my vote. That leaves everyone satisfied.
Detta told me that I needed to approach them personally and see how they responded to me before I made my decisions because they are in politic mode. It would be the personal interaction that mattered because it is a harbinger for how they will interact in the future. My response was that if they cannot be approachable, non condescending people who retain their normal personalities before the election I am not going to go inside corners and have huddled discussions in the dark so that they can be honest and appreciable It should be that way from the start.. At least Kwark trolled his own election post because that is what he does every day.
Now, the above may sound as if I want the Low Sec CSM candidate to cuddle me. While I might like that - depending on the person - it is not my goal. I simply want someone that is passionate about low sec and the game, knows what they are doing and will not present themselves with six different faces in case someone frowns at them somewhere. Normally I am all about people being polite and appreciable but for this I want someone that is comfortable with themselves and who can stand up and vomit forth counter arguments and proof.
To some it may sound odd that I'd support Kwark for a Representative He may grow bored, become idle, and shatter all my dreams and passions. I accept that. It has already happened a few times in the past. However, knowing Team Liquid and their insane ability to break down the game into minute points of complete logic I think he'll enjoy the knowledge he gains while sharing the information he has acquired. As well as trying to point out the broken.
A perfect situation? No. At least he is not someone that will be easily stomped on and fade into the background to scared to voice his opinion. He isn't perfect and he isn't afraid to admit that. There may be a lot of arrogance in his admission but he admits it.
The amusing part, is that after I wrote all of the above, he popped into one of the local Intel channels to poke people and tell them that he was really running and it was not just an elaborate troll. Although, there may be elaborate trolling to it. Seeing him clean up his campaign was nice. He was irritated at the campaign managers that appeared out of the woodwork. I don't know why he was surprised. Team Liquid is an efficient, effective bunch.
Rhavas suggested that I invite his chosen candidate to chat with we low sec folk. I declined. I'm not interested in being someone's sloppy seconds. I cannot shake the feeling that someone who has not had any mention of low sec or focus on low sec in their candidacy is suddenly going to be all, "Hi, yeah, this means a lot to me." It is someone just trying to pick up votes at that point. I was already disappointed with my choices in CSM7 (do not confuse that with being disappointed in CSM7. Just who I selected). I hope that I am going to do better this time.

Marc Saurus canceled his candidacy and lowsec is out of CSM candidates? Not even the FW guys have one?

Bringing more poeple to lowsec does not actually make lowsec any better. Kwark seems focused on things that will actually benefit people who live in lowsec and are mostly sorely needed quality of life improvements.
DeleteThings like sec status being such an issue due to how irritating it is to grind back to access hisec again, a penalty you get for pvping in lowsec.
Or the severe disparity between income of fw/non fw lowsec, to the point that if your doing pve in non fw you are essentially 'paying to run inferior content and earn less isk' since you can make 3-5 times as much isk out of fw than you can doing non fw missions in lowsec.
You cannot force people into any area of the game they do not want to be in. Nerfing hisec 'to the ground' will not make hisec move to lowsec. It will likely just make them stop playing once they can no longer afford plex.
James 315 does not represent any of my views or beliefs in the game. I am interested in a candidate that is interested in the game as a whole beyond what he personally may or may not do.
DeleteAlso, what I know of his history is mostly null sec and high sec games. He has made no platform as a low sec candidate and has insisted that he is there to do whatever he wants to do to high sec.
James 315 is also running on his own beliefs and ideas. I'm interested in a candidate that seeks communication with the community to bring forward their problems as a whole. In low sec that means both pirates, faction warfare and the riskbears that run around in it.
None of James nerf high sec plans are going to bring more targets to low sec. They live in high sec for a reason. One of those reasons is that high sec is not low sec.
While a candidate needs to have an eye on the entire game they also need to have a focus. Low sec has no one but Kwark that loves it. No one that cares about low sec as anything more then an after thought to whatever agenda they have. Low sec is its own environment and deserves its own candidate.
Yes, but James is a fucking idiot whose ideas have no basis in reality... I mean, you say he'll "fill lowsec with missioners, miners and ratters you can kill", but his grand vision is basically "nerf hisec til everyone moves out". Trouble is, they won't move to low or null, they'll move out of Eve. He has no chance of getting that idea implemented by CCP.

DeleteI hear null sec is a pretty safer place than lowsec if I am in an alliance so why would I go to lowsec to mine etc? While James waffles on a bit his vision is very vague. Vague is good when it comes to politics if you have no ideas.
