The Great Battlecruiser Change

[Edited to be 40% less bitchy]

The post is out for the changes in battlecruisers headed by CCP Fozzie.  The overall first impressions are very... "Why, oh god why my ship my ship..... and the drake is still a brick tank..."  These changes are not the end stats but we can see where CCP is headed.  There will be testing and player feedback.  Please, stop by and give your opinion, hopefully politely and usefully.  I managed to make a useless post which is not my style but I was a bit floored.

Before I paste the first version of the changes let us look at what a battlecruiser is.  I understand that Eve is its own place but we base a lot of concepts off of what things should be.  We do not have Titan sized frigates and Titans were named Titans because Titans and Titans.

Battlecruisers are larger than cruisers  able to both defend and attack battleships with raw firepower but suffering for their mobility by a weaker structure.  They are their own ship class that stand between cruisers and battleships.

Before the cruiser buff, battleships ate cruisers for breakfast.  After the buff, cruiser gangs are a serious threat to battlecrusiers.  Things like capacator warfare, range management  and decision making became much, much more important with the increase for cruisers.  Cruisers went from being amusing to being a problem when Retribution came out.  Many groups, my own included, embraced the changes and cheerfully down shipped for the mobility and cheaper cost more than compensating for the gap that was left.

Is there a focus on lighter weight ships and faster fighting?  Will battlecruiser mineral costs decrease due to their loss of armor, structure and shields?  I don't know.  I suck at this.  There is an obvious push towards more secondary weapon utilization for various races.  More options for people to chose. I've never flown a Cyclone and now the chances are that I never will due to it becoming a missile ship.

I'm not in love with the changes but life will go on, I'll learn how to fly my ships under the new rules and continue to play my game.  The frustrating part about the balancing is that it is coming out piece by piece.  It is creating gaps in the way ships are used because other ships will not be balanced for an unknown period of time.  Not that I have a better suggestion. It's just a frustrating thing to wait through.

At the same time, the developers are working on this and moving it forward at a good rate. It is a massive project that they are undertaking and shakes the foundations of the game.  Spaceships are why we play and spaceship changes means that everything changes for everyone.  As much as I do not like the things that I like to be touched, I will remind myself that other games indulge themselves in resets for possessions and random wipes when they want to make changes.

Our stuff may change but we still get to keep it.  It is still our stuff.

Anyway, this is round 1.  Fozzie was very good about feeling out player feedback and adjusting things up and down last time.  I believe it will be the same way again. It is hard to accept that it won't be left alone but it won't be, no matter how much I whine about it.  Therefore, we need to put our input and testing forward to help keep our game good.  It's hard to bitch about something being bad and wrong if you don't take the time to write up why it is bad and wrong in an attempt to make your opinion heard.

    1. Not the Sleipnir but possibly the Claymore from a conversation over twitter.

  2. Hey Dude, why do you insist on using the word "then" in place of the word "than"?

Let me give you a usage example:
First I'll go to Jita, THEN I'll explore a wormhole.
I'd rather explore the wormhole THAN go to Jita, myself.

Can you see the difference in how the two words are used?

THEN is used in a time-based way.
THAN is used in a comparison way.

Sorry if this seems picky to point out, but I cringe whenever I see it, and it is painful for me to read (I read quite a lot).

It's almost as bad as the mis-use of the word "literally" (often the exact opposite of the true meaning).

    1. I would not call it instance. I did however, forget to run this through a checker to weed out the more obvious errors. Thank you for taking the time to point them out. I have corrected them.

Maybe one day!

It was a random question that I knew the answer of. I have 'Sugar' as a keyword so it highlights green and catches my attention. This made me chuckle. Maybe I'll have to go and see what it is like to shoot a ship one day? I could not help but smile. Basi suggested that I put my Titan killmail in my bio and assert my badassery. I figure, naw. It was a roll of the dice that landed me that kill mail. It doesn't define me as a person. Bios are interesting. The idea of a biography is a way to personalize your account. You can learn a lot about a person by what they choose to put in their bio

Taboo Questions

Let us talk contentious things. What about high sec? When will CCP pay attention to high sec and those that cannot spend their time in dangerous space?  This is somewhat how the day started, sparked by a question from an anonymous poster. Speaking about high sec, in general, is one of the hardest things to do. The amount of emotion wrapped around the topic is staggering. There are people who want to stay in high sec and nothing will make them leave. There are people who want no one to stay in high sec and wish to cripple everything about it. There are people in between, but the two extremes are large and emotional in discussion. My belief is simple. If a player wishes to live in high sec, I do not believe that anything will make them leave that is not their own curiosity. I do not believe that we can beat people out of high sec or destroy it until they go to other areas of space. Sometimes, I think we forget that every player has the option to not log back in. We want them to log

And back again

My very slow wormhole adventure continues almost as slowly as I am terminating my island in Animal Crossing.  My class 3 wormhole was not where I wanted to be. I was looking for a class 1 or 2 wormhole. I dropped my probes and with much less confusion scanned another wormhole. I remembered to dscan and collect my probes as I warped to the wormhole. I even remembered to drop a bookmark, wormholes being such good bookmark locations later. My wormhole told me it was a route into low sec. I tilted my head. How circular do our adventures go. Today might be the day to die and that too is okay. That mantra dances in the back of my head these days. Even if someone mocks me, what does that matter? Fattening someone's killboard is their issue not mine. So I jumped through and found myself in Efa in Khanid, tucked on the edge of high sec and null sec. What an interesting little system.  Several connections to high sec. A connection to null sec. This must be quite the traffic system.    I am f
