Demon Eyeballs

I was staring moodily at my ship list.  The day, it seemed, had been consumed by the endless discussions about the battlecruiser changes.  My mood had been steadily dropping and by the time that I should have been in bed it was on the floor.  I accidently uninstalled my Aura app a few days ago and I have not taken the time to re-add all of my API keys.  Because of this my skill training statuses across all of my accounts have become a mystery.

For some reason, I was bright enough to check Sugar's skill queue. Small Blaster Specialization IV would finish in eight hours and then the queue was empty.  Okay.  The good news is I caught it.  The better news is when I wake up I can start using T2 hybrid turrets.  An entire range of ships has opened up to me.

However, what caught my attention was the fact that to get medium T2 hybrid I had to wander through T2 small hybrids.  I've kept most of my frigate focus on Minmatar frigates.  I've not thought much about Gallente frigates because my drone skills are still lacking.  What I did realize is that I had a Daredevil in my hanger.  A Daredevil that I won on Blink sometime over the summer and realized I could not fly due to it being a hybrid turret platform.

I then dropped 10 million into Blink, picked three random tickets, won a Wolf and cashed out 33 million ISK.  With that itch satisfied, I activated the Daredevil and looked at it for the first time.

It is uglier then I realized.

Much uglier.  But it is something different and I have it.  Even if it has a glowing red demon eye it is my glowing red demon eye.  I have named it Demon Eyeball because I am clever with ship names.

It is not that I am so much in love with the Daredevil as that it made me realize that I had finally stepped out of being a highly specialized Minmatar only pilot.  My previous training outside of Minmatar has been support functions for Minmatar.  I fly a Cynabal with Minmatar and Gallente Cruiser at V, but a Cynabal is an Angel Cartel pirate cruiser that uses projectile weapons.  The Daredevil a Serpentis ship and hybrid blasters.

And now I can use hybrid blasters.  "But, Sugar, you could have used hybrid blasters before!"  Yes, but I can use T2 hybrid blasters (small and medium) now which makes my ship PvP capable.

"But Sugar, it was capable before!"  Not by my book of reasons to do things, it was not.  If I wrote a bullshit mathematical equation in words (which I will do) it would say something like, "If Weapon Systems = T2 greater then  T1 = Choice T2 over T1"

I'm sure that is terribly done and made someone burst into tears and stab their monitor.  Regardless, if I can fly a ship well it does not make it acceptable to fly a ship poorly because I want something different right now instead of a week from now.  I also don't fly shiny things not fit as well as they can be.  Now, this BS equation states having T2 vs T1.  I am an advocate of people getting out there and doing things instead of waiting for T2 systems, but once you HAVE the T2 systems use them and put patience into the skill queue.

In celebration I wept for joy and immediately remapped Sugar into gunnery.  I'd been hemming and hawing about doing it for months.  I then got distracted by the Destroyer and Battlecruiser changes. Once I finished those I then wandered into deciding to fly another racial type of ship.  Finally, past that I realized I just need to take time to learn all the weapons systems that I need.  The skill training that I completed has given me the ability to fly all the T1 hulls under Battleship and I can fly T2 hulls in 2 races.  It is time for experiments and change.

  1. I absolutely love flying the Daredevil. If you can, splurge on a faction webber. :)

  2. Oh my eyes! I think you are looking for this:

    If T2 Then
    Module = PvP
    Else
    Module = PvE
    End If

    1. This is why I failed bullshit math so badly in college.

  3. I love Daredevils...especially that moment when they stray into scram range then panic as my Wolf's Fusion rounds punch through the paper thin tank <3 :)

    Also fun: scram range brawling with a DD in a Slicer.

  4. Daredevil is actually a Serpentis pirate frigate, not Angel Cartel.

The Charm of the Familar

With a few picked up a shifts at work due to the holidays. I pondered logging in but I didn't have the energy to do so. Being able to say no to logging in is pleasant. Just as my youngest puppy interrupts me every fifteen minutes to pee, going to sleep instead of staying up is also pleasant. I had a lot of short slept nights when I was active in a corporation.

My next plan has been to learn how to scan again. The new map is in and I need to refresh my scanning skills. My hold is full of probes. My ship appears to be reasonably set up. I remembered how to hit my F key to cloak. In fact, I hit it a bit to fast. I need to get the ebb and flow of the tic back down.

I am also rusty in my paranoia. I idly switch to another window to research breadbowls and the soup I want to make later. Then I remember I am sitting, decloaked, off of a gate somewhere. Whoops. I did figure out a breadbowl recipe and soup as well.

The question was where do I relearn to scan? I need somewhere off the beate…

CSMX - Post #20

Summer is here and CCP is very much out of the office. Sion made a good point in wondering why everyone leaves Iceland when it has its best weather. What it means is that all is mostly quiet on the dev blog front. There are some things happening but the dev blogs and news announcements have not yet happened. The skill points were delivered on Tuesday so yay for unallocated skill points.

Over in CSM chat, there has been a lot of back and forth about sov and measuring the impact and success of things so far. I can say that CCP and the CSM are watching it. The pros and cons are coming in pretty hot and heavy. Some are being looked at now. Some have to see how things are going and if and how the direction needs to be tweaked.

In my corner, I'm starting to gather things together. The summit is in seven or so weeks. In between then and now I need to gather up my question list and write down a few topics of discussion. I'm starting now because I have personal vacation at the end of A…

TCS: Sugar's Non-Technical Guide to Her Low Sec Market

Gevlon shocked me by featuring my store in his blog, yesterday. My entire project has been something I mostly scraped together and have bumbled through to the best of my ability and sense. Early on, I started a naming dynamic to my posts so that people could avoid the blogs about the store. These blogs are titled TCS. Also, if you search for TCS those particular blogs are available.

I decided to create a more cohesive naming strategy because someone said, “I don’t know how interested your readers will be in your market posts.” I didn’t either. I wasn't going to not write them because I write about whatever interests me. It seemed that a naming convention would correct the situation. However, I’ve started to receive a trickle of eve-mail and e-mail about what I am doing. Sometimes people ask me for advice on how to approach their own low sec market or what they should pick and choose or just how to pick and choose.

Cheradenine Harper asked me about moving forward into the wider mark…
