Last month I decided to go to Fanfest this year. I looked at hotels. All of the hotels in the good locations were booked for the fanfest time frame. I thought, "my god, Eve players are planners all right. People have already booked and gotten themselves settled, I guess I'll have to get a rental car and book a bit further out."
A week or so after that, I saw someone comment that they were waiting for the hotel deals from CCP. Eh? Hotel deals? Wait, does CCP block out their rooms?
Then the 2013 Fanfest announcement came out.
Sure as anything, CCP does reserve hotel rooms.
Eagerly, I got everything together I decided to book my hotel at across from the actual Fanfest Convention. According to the Fanfest pages the 'official' hotel is the one across the street from CCPs office. I thought about it for a while and decided, for my interests, being closer to the actual venue I am going to is better. I'm a home body and not a party person. All I can imagine is people partying in the halls and blobbing the Devs.
I booked for six nights. Arrival will be Wednesday and Leaving Monday. The hotel gives a free room if you stay over 4 nights. The end result was a $598(USD) hotel bill for six nights in Iceland in a Double room (the Center Hotels Biggest Offering).
Then Events. There is a Symphony on Wednesday Depending on when my flight arrives I may or may not attend. I'm not big into music but it seems that it will be interesting and not plagued by people standing and screaming like concerts seem to be.
The fanfest ticket itself is 125 for the Early Bird Special or 10plex. That is fine. Of the other Even's listed that you can pay for the only one that interests me is the dinner. The dinner is 125 dollars. My problem with it is this. I'm not an overly social dinner party (any party) type of person in the first place. And 125 dollars is rather steep for an Event where I may not be interested in the food. To me, what I am really paying for is alcohol. I don't drink. Not socially, not a little bit, not at all. I kind of feel that I'd me tossing 125 dollars to meet the developers in a somewhat smaller environment Nothing against them but paying to meet them isn't my type of thing. I really have to think about it and think about it quickly since tickets are limited.
Hotels: The hotel you have to email or call. What I did was email the reservation. They sent back the conformation 2 days later. Then called them with the credit card details. And poof, all booked.
Airfare: I'll look into this. Iceland Air leaves from one of the local airports thankfully
Events: You have to log into your account for this one
Now to send my passport off for renewal this weekend. I got the new pictures done. They are terrible. I look like a toad. Oh well. I do enjoy travel and I have never been to Iceland. This will be a lot of fun.

ReplyDeleteMe too. Sadly I'll be in Spain on the Fanfest date. Well on vacation actually -there mighty be worse reasons not to go but its bittersweet anyway.
